The Bat is the default melee weapon for the Scout class. It is an aluminum baseball bat sporting a rubber grip and large dent on its side.

The Bat does less damage per hit than any other melee weapon, but swings considerably faster (roughly 30-40%). It does one-third of the Scattergun's damage at point blank range, so players may use the weapon to finish an opponent when out of ammunition, while reloading, or simply for additional humiliation. Its Critical hit animation depicts the Scout swinging it backhandedly.

  • During the TF2 Beta, a team-colored label was displayed on the Bat. Upon release, the label was changed to green and gray for both teams.
  • The Scout's default Bat is made of aluminum. The first aluminum baseball bat was actually made in the 1970s, at least two years after this game ostensibly takes place.
