The Conniver's Kunai is a promotional melee weapon for the Spy. It is a Japanese Template:W with a cloth-bound handle.

Equipping this weapon reduces the user's max health by 65, thereby lowering the Spy's overall health to a total of 60. March 10, 2011 Patch (Shogun Pack)

  • The item was added to the game.

March 11, 2011 Patch

  • Fixed players getting a health bonus based on the weapon they're currently holding instead of the weapon that dealt the killing blow.

March 15, 2011 Patch

  • The item became tradeable.
  • All Conniver's Kunais crafted before this patch were upgraded to Vintage quality.
  • [Undocumented] The item was given a unique crafting recipe.

Bugs

  • The Kunai clips through the Spy's sleeve in first person view, despite it it having no clipping issues during development.[1]
  • When wielding the Kunai, the Spy will not say any of his Domination/Response lines, similar to the Your Eternal Reward as a result of the December 17, 2010 Patch.
  • When pulling out the Conniver's Kunai, the blade-opening sound effect of the Knife unfolding can still be heard.
  • Switching to the Knife or Your Eternal Reward while outside of a respawn area, obtaining a kill and then touching a resupply cabinet will double the overheal obtained using the Kunai allowing for a maximum amount of 375 health overhealed. [2]

Trivia

  • A conniver is a person who manipulates or secretly conspires with others, usually to advance their own agenda.
  • This weapon adopts the stylized appearance of kunai often portrayed in anime and manga, where they are usually shown as throwing daggers. However, the Conniver's Kunai is more in line with traditional kunai, which were not thrown but wielded as a tool or close range weapon.
  • Historically, Template:W (苦無) were farming tools; when the Japanese emperor announced Martial Law and banned weapons, farming tools were among the easily disguised substitutes adopted.
