— The Scout
|
” |
The Bat is the default melee weapon for the Scout class. It is an aluminium baseball bat with an rubber grip and sports a large dent in the side.
The Bat does less damage per hit than any other melee weapon but swings considerably faster (roughly 30-40%). Doing slightly less than half the Scattergun's damage at point blank range, players may use the weapon to finish an opponent when out of ammunition, when their other weapons need reloading, or simply for additional humiliation. Its Critical hit animation depicts the Scout swinging it back handedly.

Trivia
- The Scout's default Bat is made of aluminium. The first aluminium baseball bat was actually made in the 1970s, at least two years after this game is supposed to take place.
- In the TF2 Beta, RED or BLU was displayed on the Bat as well as the bucket icon, depending which team chosen. On release, it was changed to be blank for both teams.
- The motion in which the Scout holds and attacks with the Bat in the world model is similar to how players in the Half Life series attack with crowbars.
