The Conniver's Kunai is a melee weapon for the Spy. It is based off the Japanese Template:W.
Equipping this weapon reduces the user's max health by 65, thereby lowering the Spy's overall health to a total of 60. Upon a successful backstab, degenerative effects such as afterburn and bleed will end. The victim's total health, including overheal, is then added to the user's own health. This heals any damage taken, and then applies the remainder in the form of an overheal, capping out at a maximum of 180. When the Conniver's Kunai is equipped, the Spy's overheal mechanic functions differently from a standard overheal, depleting at 2 health per second. Overheal applied by a Medic will fade in 15 seconds, while overheal at maximum buff, applied through the Conniver's Kunai, will fade in 60 seconds.
The Conniver's Kunai, released with the Shogun Pack, was awarded in Genuine quality to players who pre-purchased Total War: SHOGUN 2 on Steam before March 15, 2011.
Taunting with the Conniver's Kunai equipped allows the Spy to perform a deadly Fencing maneuver.

Update history
March 10, 2011 Patch (Shogun Pack)
- The item was added to the game.
- Fixed players getting a health bonus based on the weapon they're currently holding instead of the weapon that dealt the killing blow.
- The item became tradeable.
- All Conniver's Kunais crafted before this patch were upgraded to Vintage quality.
- [Undocumented] The item was given a unique crafting recipe.
Bugs
- The Kunai clips through the Spy's sleeve in first person view.
- When wielding the Kunai, the Spy will not say any of his Domination/Response lines, similar to the Your Eternal Reward as a result of the December 17, 2010 Patch.
- When pulling out the Conniver's Kunai, the blade-opening sound effect of the Knife unfolding can still be heard.
- Switching to the Knife or Your Eternal Reward while outside of a respawn area, obtaining a kill and then touching a resupply cabinet will double the overheal obtained using the Kunai allowing for a maximum amount of 375 health overhealed. [1]
Trivia
- A conniver is a person who manipulates or secretly conspires with others, usually to advance their own agenda.
- This weapon adopts the stylized appearance of kunai often portrayed in anime and manga, where they are usually shown as throwing daggers. However, the Conniver's Kunai is more in line with traditional kunai, which were not thrown but wielded as a tool or close range weapon.
- During development, the Conniver's Kunai did not clip with the Spy's sleeve. [2]
- Historically, Kunai were farming tools. Yet when the Japanese emperor announced Martial Law and banned weapons, farming tools were among the easily disguised substitutes adopted.
- Kunai are often considered as throwing knives, but the spy weapon is strangly close combat only.
