The Medic

The Amputator is a community-made melee weapon for the Medic. It is a saw with angular edges and a distinct team-colored handle with an arrowhead-like extension near the top and the Medic's class icon in the center.

The weapon is statistically identical to the Bonesaw; upon taunting, however, a Medicating Melody is produced and heals all nearby teammates, save for Soldiers with the Equalizer as their active weapon. Therefore, this weapon can be taken as a direct upgrade to the standard Bonesaw.

The Medic will be credited with an assist kill if a teammate successfully kills an enemy within the taunt's area of effect.

The kill icon for the Amputator was contributed by MasterOfOrigami.

Bugs

  • The Medicating Melody taunt will nullify a crit boost.
  • The taunt does not heal enemy Spies; additionally, the team-colored glow seen below teammates will not appear below a disguised enemy Spy.
  • The Amputator makes the Übersaw hit sound on contact.

Trivia

  • Early in its development, the Amputator was originally going to be a dagger-like weapon named the Flammenspritze, German for "Fire Syringe".
  • Unlike most special taunts, the Medicating Melody's health buff will still apply if the Thriller or the Director's Vision taunts are played.

Notes

  1. In mid taunt with the Amputator, the player could disconnect from the server, but the healing effect would remain for surrounding injured players, giving them infinitely regenerating health, even after death, until they disconnected or the map changed.
