— The Scout

” |
The Bat is the default melee weapon for the Scout. It is an aluminum baseball bat sporting a rubber tape grip, a faded green oval label and a large dent on its side.
The Bat does less damage per hit than any other stock melee weapon, but swings considerably faster, by roughly 30-40%. It does one third of the Scattergun's damage at point blank range, so players may use the weapon to finish an opponent when out of ammunition, while reloading, or simply for additional humiliation. Its critical hit animation depicts the Scout swinging it backhandedly.

Update history
April 29, 2008 Patch (Gold Rush Update)
- The Bat received new swing animations.
- Fixed this weapon's melee attack not destroying remote detonation pipes (Stickybombs).
Bugs
- The weapon is positioned incorrectly in the Scout's hand and, as a result, clips with his palm.
Trivia
- During the Team Fortress 2 Beta, a team-colored label was displayed on the Bat. Upon release, the label was changed to a faded green for both teams. This can still be seen in the weapon's bucket icons.
- The Bat is made of aluminum. The first aluminum baseball bat was made in the 1970s, at least two years after this game ostensibly takes place.
