The Manmelter is a secondary weapon for the Pyro. It is a grey, retro-futuristic laser pistol, with a small vial with team-colored liquid inside.

The weapon fires flaming bolts of energy that function similarly to flares from the Flare Gun, only traveling 50% faster. Unlike flares, shots will not normally inflict critical hits on flaming players. The weapon also has unlimited ammunition, cannot fire random critical hits, does not need to be reloaded, and has a 20% slower firing speed.

Holding the alt-fire button will extinguish teammates on fire and earn a guaranteed critical hit for each one, which will be stored for later use, similar to the Frontier Justice or Diamondback. Up to 35 crits can be stored at one time and all will be lost upon death.

Enemies killed by the Manmelter suffer a distinctive death by incineration, wherein they disintegrate into smoldering orange cinders that quickly fade away.

Taunting with the Manmelter active allows the Pyro to perform a deadly Hadouken.

This item was named the "Manmelter 3600 ZX" in promotional materials from the Official TF2 Blog and Weta Workshop.

Bugs

  • The projectiles fired from this weapon can be reflected, contrary to the listed effects.
    • When the projectile is reflected, it is reflected as a flare.
  • Killing an enemy with a direct hit flare use the Flare Gun's kill icon.
  • Holding down the primary fire button after firing will cause the weapon not to fully go back to its resting position.
  • Holding down the alt fire button while taunting will cause the weapon's ash-sucking visual effect to be stuck even if the Pyro switches to a different weapon.
  • When a projectile hits an object, its trail instantly disappears instead of fading away.
  • While holding down alt-fire after having saved up charges, trying to fire while still holding alt-fire plays the animation of firing a critical shot. Saved critical shots are rapidly lost during this sequence.
  • When quick-switching from the Manmelter to another weapon, the weapon's ammo can be seen for a split second. The game lists it as 32 shots carried and 100 loaded, despite the weapon's infinite ammunition. A similar bug once appeared on the Cow Mangler 5000.

Trivia

  • The appearance of this weapon is based on that of the "Manmelter 3600ZX Sub-Atomic Disintegrator Pistol", which can be purchased from the online store at Weta Workshop.
