"Meet the Spy" Video Transcript

Leak

"Meet the Spy" was leaked on May 17, 2009 due to a YouTube bug which allowed iPhones to view videos marked as "Private." This inspired a series of posts on the official blog, and Valve awarded themselves a "Corporate Achievement" called "Welcome to the internets," with the description "Fail to understand what Private means on YouTube." In the officially released version, one of the alert panels reads "Leaked Video." It originally read "Lost Memory."

Notes

  • In Meet the Spy, the Red Spy disguised as Blu Scout was able to touch the Blu Intelligence briefcase. Unlike in-game, the Spy was not forced to drop his disguise and take the intelligence.
  • When the Red Spy kills the Blu Medic, a wooden crate from Template:W is visible in the background.
  • The alarm bell and signal board at the beginning is an "Alarm-O-Tron 5000". These alerts are displayed below. The alerts in bold display the specific warnings which were activated and lit during the video.
Emergency On Cap Intruder Alert Is Fired BLU Demoman Depressed

    • The Alarm-O-Tron 5000 board gives a hint about who the RED Spy is disguised as. Three consecutive alerts read: -BLU Scout - Has Evil Twin - Red Spy-
    • The Alarm-O-Tron 5000 board also continues the question about the Pyro's gender. On the boards are the alerts: 'Is a Man' 'Is a Woman' and 'Is a Robot'
  • The Alarm-O-Tron 5000 board makes an appearance in the map Double Cross in a locked-off room beside the Intelligence room.
  • The code lock protecting the door to the Intelligence room has a worn down '1' button, while all other buttons are clean. This is due to the keycode 1111.
  • The video takes place in a modified version of the 2Fort map, with most of the action occurring in BLU's Intelligence room.
  • On the corkboard next to the filing cabinets, a photo of Saxton Hale (CEO of Mann Co.) can be seen.
  • The French phrase spoken by at the end is "Ah, ma petite chou-fleur," literally meaning "Ah, my little cauliflower." In French, the phrase is used as an endearment toward loved ones. The statement "Ma petite chou-fleur," is incorrect however, as "Ma" should be "Mon" to signify masculinity from the Spy. Whether this was a mistake in dialogue when Meet The Spy was being recorded or intended is unknown.
  • The Sniper is seen wearing the Trophy Belt. This was a teaser, as hats had not been revealed when the video came out. This was one of the several hat teasers during this trailer, including the Heavy's Football Helmet which can be seen early in the video on top of a filing cabinet in the Intelligence room.
  • When the Spy is killing the Heavy and Soldier at the end of Meet the Spy, the Heavy and Soldier's grunts are timed almost perfectly with the ending flourish.
  • On the Keypad lock, a barely visible imprint of the BLU's Soldier's finger can be seen.
  • The bat the Scout is holding is the Sandman, but does not have his infamous ball.
    • Also, the Scout disguise is one of the more unused disguises, due to the fact it's more aparrent that it is a Spy, because of lack of speed.
