Yo, heads up!
The Scout on incoming projectiles

Mad Milk is a community-made secondary weapon for the Scout. It is a non-descript bottle of "milk" with no cap. The liquid inside sloshes with movement.

Unlike the other drinks available to the Scout, Mad Milk functions similarly to Jarate and can be thrown at enemies as a projectile. Victims will continually drip white beads of substance and be notified by a corresponding white droplet on the HUD, next to their health meter. It is possible for a player to throw a "critical" Mad Milk with a team-colored effect, but the effect is purely cosmetic.

When a target is covered in Mad Milk, 60% of all damage taken will be returned as health to any attacker for 10 seconds, with the only exception being damage done by an Engineer’s Sentry Gun. The healing provided by Mad Milk will not overheal a player.

Mad Milk has the additional benefits of extinguishing teammates on fire and revealing enemy Spies. Unlike Jarate, however, it does not short out the Spy's Cloaking device; invisible Spies under the effects of Mad Milk remain invisible and will not reveal disguises or team colors, but the dripping white beads make them easy to locate.

Aside from dying, the only ways to prematurely remove the effects of Mad Milk are by visiting a Resupply locker, by being submerged in water, or by being healed for an extended period of time.

If an enemy Pyro manages to airblast the Milk back to the Scout or any of his teammates, the enemy team could recover health by damaging those who have been splashed by the Mad Milk.

Strange variant

A strange version of this weapon exists exclusively in the Series #31 crate. This weapon does not count kills; instead, its rank is based on the number of enemies coated in Mad Milk. Kill assists and friendly extinguishes will not contribute to the weapon's rank progression.

Bugs

  • Spies under the effect of Mad Milk will exclaim a line as if they had been hit by Jarate.
  • The Sniper achievements Jarring Transition and Number One Assistant can be earned with the Mad Milk.
  • Upon taunting with the Mad Milk, at the end of the animation the Scout will appear to briefly hold the drink in the Pistol/Shortstop pose.
  • When thrown at a pumpkin bomb, the resulting explosion is capable of dealing damage to teammates as though they were enemies.
  • Mad Milk will cover targets within range if thrown at a spawn gate, even before it opens. This bug is also present with Jarate.
  • Throwing Mad Milk on someone who is already under the effects of Jarate will cancel out the visual effect of the Jarate but keeps the debuff effects of both. The case is the same vice versa.
  • A player under the effects of Bonk! Atomic Punch and also covered in Mad Milk will still provide health upon being hit.

Trivia

  • Mad Milk supposedly came from cows infused with "sweet, wholesome thermonuclear radiation".
  • The weapon's development name was "Mann Milk", a reference to Mann Co. [1].
  • Mad Milk was originally a reskin for Bonk! Atomic Punch and was planned to be used as a lunchbox item in-game, hence the description revolving around taste on Spetch's Special Delivery poster.
