Your Eternal Reward is a community-created melee weapon for the Spy. It is a long, ornate dagger with distinctive oriental designs, a team-colored wooden handle, and a curved golden hilt. The other side of the handle, when holding the knife, has a crack in it.

This weapon retains the instant-kill backstab ability of the Knife, but with some tweaks. Upon a successful backstab, the Spy instantaneously disguises as the target without the puffs of smoke that usually surround a disguising Spy.   • The auto disguise effect is fixed to only occur when the target does not survive the backstab.

  • Updated the materials for Your Eternal Reward to fix incorrect lighting under certain conditions (community fix from Lindon).

Bugs

  • Should the player die after switching the equipped melee from Your Eternal Reward to the Knife, respawning may not be possible until they change classes.
  • Backstabbing the person you are disguised as while they are holding their melee occasionally causes the disguise weapon to become the Your Eternal Reward.
  • If the Spy backstabs an enemy who is then auto-balanced, the Spy disguises as a friendly version of that class.
  • Certain problems exist with the weapon when using DirectX 8; enemy bodies do not fade away when backstabbed, and the weapon is visible when the Spy is cloaked.
  • Backstabbing a disguised Spy using Your Eternal Reward does not give the Spy achievement Counter Espionage.
  • Disguising while holding out the Dead Ringer results in it still being held out and showing it charging. Upon it being fully charged, it acts normally. However, if the user takes damage while the uncharged Dead Ringer is active they still receive the 75% feign damage resistance on the first hit taken.

Notes

  • Backstabbing an Engineer while he is hauling a building results in the killfeed displaying the building's destruction to the enemy team.

Trivia

  • Before the item was released, Robin Walker joked that Your Eternal Reward's drawback would be that it cannot facestab.[2]
  • The name is a reference to a scene in the 1992 film Aladdin where Jafar fools Aladdin with his disguise and then attempts to murder him with a dagger that Jafar refers to as "your eternal reward".
