Como habéis podido ver, nos gusta cambiar las cosas en Team Fortress 2. Un montón. Y aunque casi siempre lo hacemos perfecto, en ocasiones cometemos errores. Team Fortress 2 Beta fue un beta pública independiente, gratuita para todos los jugadores con cuenta prémium, que salió el 2 de diciembre de 2010 y se eliminó el 7 de junio de 2013. Esta fue la segunda beta de pruebas lanzada para TF2, siendo la primera la que se distribuyó a los jugadores que precompraron el juego antes del 10 de octubre de 2007. Esta fue distinta a la de aquel entonces, asemejándose más a la beta cerrada de 2009.

Esta beta se empleó para los siguientes propósitos, aunque no estaba limitada a ello exclusivamente:

  • Probar varios cambios en clases, objetos y armas.
  • Probar nuevos cambios y variantes de mapas.
  • Probar nuevas características experimentales y experimentos más amplios (como aumentar la salud de los jugadores).
  • Probar o implementar nuevas funciones sin correr el riesgo de provocar cuelgues en el juego principal.

Los jugadores recibían las armas que se estaban probando en ese momento y los objetos promocionales asignados a dicha cuenta. La obtención aleatoria de objetos y la fabricación estaba activada, pero el intercambio y la tienda Mann Co. no estaban disponibles. El nivel de obtención aleatoria en Team Fortress 2 Beta es igual al de la versión normal de Team Fortress 2.

  • Ahora la IP pública se muestra en la consola al crear un servidor local y la salida del comando de ejecución se ha modificado.
  • Se añadió la opción de servidores dedicados para forzar a bloquear usuarios de Steam. Esta característica permite a un jugador o grupo de Steam evitar que jugadores bloqueados se unan a sus partidas. [2][3]
  • Se corrigió un problema de sobrecarga que afectaba a los servidores dedicados que se ejecutaban en FreeBSD.
  • Se implementó el menú de Half-Life 2 (Source SDK).
