Good Scouts drink Bonk. And good ones beat the crap out of every single chucklehead in their way! But this bat is the harder thing to bonk with.
Atomizer publicity blurb

The Atomizer is a community-created melee weapon for the Scout. It is a slightly worn aluminum baseball bat, fitted with a black ribbed grip and team-colored stripes and bands; a Bonk! logo is emblazoned on the "barrel".

The Atomizer grants the wielder the ability to triple jump while the weapon is fully deployed. However, the Atomizer deploys 50% slower than the default Bat. As a triple jump does not initiate in the middle of the weapon's deploy animation, the Scout must wait for the Atomizer to fully deploy to take advantage of the triple jump. The deploy penalty leaves the Scout without long range damage options for longer, making him more vulnerable to enemy attack.

Upon a successful triple jump, a cloud of purple smoke trails behind the Scout, as opposed to the normal white cloud. Also, while airborne, attacks with this weapon deal mini-crits. As a downside, the Atomizer deals 15% less damage to players, but this penalty does not apply to non-player objects such as buildings. Scouts can exploit the Atomizer's triple jump to become more mobile and reach previously inaccessible areas, at the cost of decreased firepower and attacking ability.

Taunting with the Atomizer equipped results in the Home Run kill taunt.

Bugs

  • If a player switches to the Grappling Hook, then back to the Atomizer, the triple jump is still delayed at normal holster time.
  • Rarely, the triple jump fails to deploy on a fence and other objects.
  • If the player jumps into water, it is still counted as airborne, therefore making all attacks from the Atomizer mini-crit until the player touches the ground.

Trivia

  • A now-patched bug caused the Scout to be able to infinitely triple jump while in the reference pose/"civilian" pose pose, this was then dubbed the Bird Scout by the community.
  • To "atomize" means to reduce something into atoms, to break something into small pieces, or to bomb something with nuclear weapons.
