"Meet the Scout" Video Transcript

[Faster Than a Speeding Bullet plays as the warehouse doors in Well rise, revealing a crouching RED Scout with other members of Red Team.]

[The Scout watches various BLU Team members stationed around center point: an Engineer industriously making defensive preparations, a smoking Spy, and a Soldier juggling rockets.]

[Scout pumps his Scattergun and RED runs out to attack center point.]

[The Scout charges into a fierce battle on Well, quickly outpacing all his teammates. He runs towards the center of the map dodging everything that BLU throws at him, then outruns and crosses a passing train as it crushes a BLU Soldier and Pyro.]

["Meet the Scout" text appears]

[Scout walks in front of the Meet the Scout text, from off frame.]

Scout: "Um... I don't even know where to start with you. I mean, do you even know who you're talkin' to?

[Cut to a scene of a BLU Heavy, sitting near the third Control Point in Granary about to take a bite of a Sandvich, when he is poked in the head by the Scout's Bat.]

Scout: "Yo, what's up?"

[Cut back to Scout in front of text.]

Scout: D-Do you have any idea, any idea who I am?"

[Back to Heavy and Scout, who are in a fistfight and yelling. Cuts back to Scout.]

Scout: "Basically - kind of a big deal!"

[Back to fight. Scout is strangling Heavy with his Bat.]

Scout: [Flexes a muscle] "Oh man, that's beautiful. Heh!"

[Cut back to fight, Heavy now has the Scout in a headlock. Cuts back to Scout.]

Scout: " Ya' listenin'? OK. Grass grows, birds fly, sun shines, and brotha'-[pokes the camera] I hurt people."

[Cut back to fight, The Scout whacks the Heavy in the gut with his Bat.]

Scout: "BOINK!"

Scout: [Back to Text] "I'm a Force-A-Nature!"

[Scout hits the Heavy in the chin.]

Scout: "BONK!"

[Cuts back to Scout]

Scout: "If you were from where I was from, you'd be f**kin' dead!"

[Cuts back to fight; Heavy is collapsed on the ground trying to reach for his Sandvich; the Scout runs up the side of a shipping container, jumps off and slams his Bat into the Heavy's head.]

[Cuts back to Scout]

Scout: "WOOO!"

[Team Fortress 2 ending flourish music plays]

[Scout sits on the twitching body of the Heavy eating the Heavy's Sandvich; the point is now RED's.]

Notes

  • This video was first shown at the Game Developer's Conference in February 2008.
  • In the scene where the Scout is talking in front of the "Meet the Scout" text it says "Copyright : LOLOLOL". This is a gag that recurs throughout all of the "Meet the Team" videos besides "Meet the Heavy" (which didn't have the copyright notice) and "Meet the Sandvich" (which had Copyright OM NOM NOM instead).
  • The Scout is much faster than normal in the Well action scenes, and would have been unlikely to pass the Sentry Gun without significant damage. This could have been the first sly nod towards the Scout pack with the Bonk! Atomic Punch.
  • The Heavy's emblem on his shoulders has changed from a skull and crossbones (Meet the Heavy) to Fists.
  • When the Scout pokes the camera during the line "..and brudda', I hurt people" he leaves a fingerprint which stays there for the rest of the video.
  • When the Scout curses right before hitting the Heavy on the ground, the "u" in the word is heard quite clearly before the bleep, and the bleep ends just as the "ck" part begins, so the word "Fucking" is actually heard very clearly in the video.
  • Body count: 2 (The Heavy is still alive, as he almost unnoticeably twitches his finger.)
  • RED is attacking from the BLU base in the beginning. An explanation for this could be that they were capturing the BLU warehouse when BLU took the center, nullifying their capture, which happens often in Well.
  • Amusing Sign: The sign on the stairwell after the Scout dodges the speeding train reads 'Watch Your Step'.
  • The RED team runs out of the BLU base to attack the middle Control point.
  • The BLU Sentry Gun sounds more like a Heavy's Minigun, and has a rather wide muzzle flash.
  • The sandwich is ham, bologna and cheese, accompanied by lettuce and sliced tomatoes and topped with an olive. It was later released as a unlockable secondary weapon for the Heavy known as the Sandvich.
  • In the game, the Sandvich replaces the Heavy's Shotgun, but in this video the Heavy is actually shown holding both at the same time.
  • The possible reason that the Heavy was out cold after being batted a few times by the Scout is because his health was low at that time. It explains that the Heavy was eating it to restore his health even though this update was released a few months after that. This could also be a sly nod to the upcoming (at the time) Sandman and its ability to stun other players.
  • The beginning action scene is on the map CP Well while the fight with the Heavy Weapons Guy takes place on the middle capture point of CP Granary. The capture point is BLU controlled when the Scout pokes the Heavy in the head and RED controlled after the Scout has defeated the Heavy.
  • Around the beginning of the video, when the Scout runs past the middle base, he leaps from a ledge and over onto a train. While in mid-air, he fires his Scattergun, which lets off the sound that all of the Shotguns in the game make.
  • When the train passes in front of him, the Scout switches from his Scattergun to the Bat instantaneously.
  • The level 1 Sentry seen just when the door opens seems to get closer to the ramp when taking a closer look.
  • The train appears to have carriages when in-game it does not.
  • The Force-A-Nature weapon is named for the Scout's description of himself in this video.
  • Usually the Scout has the mic on his headset lowered, yet when he starts the interview, it is above the brim of his hat. It then switches back and forth several times over the course of the video. The Scout is also seen with the mic in this position in Meet the Spy.
  • The Scout's line about himself could have been taken from the boxing champion Muhammed Ali's quote "It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up."
  • Just before the Scout enters the warehouse where the train barrels through, he runs past the Soldier and Pyro he had seen earlier. The Pyro also attempts to kill the Scout with a burst of flame. Listen carefully.
  • The battle cries from the Scout and Heavy in their fight are also the Scout and Heavy's death and injury cries.
