The Spy gaining crits from sapped buildings

The Diamondback is a community-created promotional secondary weapon for the Spy. It is based on the Diamond Back .357 from the video game Deus Ex: Human Revolution; a futuristic metal Revolver with a black grip, front sight, and cylinder.

The Diamondback has the ability to store up to 35 critical hits for later use. One critical hit is stored for each enemy backstabbed, or for each building that is destroyed while being sapped (regardless of whether or not the Sapper is what actually destroys the building). However, any stored critical hits are lost upon death, and any buildings destroyed with the Spy's Sapper attached while he is dead do not grant any critical hits. In addition, the weapon's base damage is 15% lower than the Revolver, and it cannot roll for random critical hits. In Mann vs. Machine, sapped Robots do not grant critical hits upon their destruction, but can still be backstabbed to store a crit.

The Diamondback was awarded in Genuine quality to players who pre-purchased Deus Ex: Human Revolution on Steam before August 26, 2011.

The kill icon for the Diamondback was contributed by Ani .

Bugs

  • Players do not earn any critical hits for sapped buildings destroyed with non-critical Diamondback shots.
  • If a Spy performs backstabs or saps buildings with a different secondary weapon equipped, the crits are retroactively awarded as soon as the Spy switches to the Diamondback via a Resupply locker or by picking up a dropped Diamondback.
    • However, picking up another secondary weapon while having a picked up Diamondback results in the stored crits disappearing.[1]
  • Destroying a building with a guaranteed-critical Diamondback shot earns another guaranteed crit; however, the counter displays as having 0 stored crits. Firing once sets the counter to the correct value.
  • Like all of the Spy's secondary weapons except the Revolver and the Enforcer, the Spy does not actually put any bullets into the cylinder while reloading, due to the model lacking a speedloader.
  • The crits counter overlaps with the Cloak meter when using the Minimal HUD advanced option.

Trivia

  • The Diamondback's design in Team Fortress 2 resembles how the Diamond Back .357 looks when it is upgraded with a Laser Sight and Explosive Rounds, instead of its default, unmodified appearance.
  • In Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the Diamond Back .357 uses a break-action reload system with a removable cylindrical magazine based on the Dardick Tround concept, and not the traditional swing-out revolving cylinder it uses in Team Fortress 2.
