The Vita-Saw is an unlockable melee weapon for the Medic class. It appears as a rusty gas pump handle with a long needle, a knife under the needle, and a container with some liquid on top. It was originally created by Pie_Tony, Daimao, and IdleTard as a replacement for the Übersaw, hence its similarities to it.

The weapon takes 10 health away from its user, but retains 20% of the Medic's current ÜberCharge if he dies.  For example, if a Medic dies with 40% ÜberCharge, they will respawn with 8% ÜberCharge.

The Vita-Saw (vaɪtɑːsɔː veye) is a community-created melee weapon for the Medic. It is a rusty gas pump handle that has been outfitted with both a long needle and blood-stained knife underneath, and with a container connected to the top of the main part of the weapon, filled with a team-colored liquid with a slight glow to it. A small skull and bones symbol, coupled with eight tally marks, has been etched into the flat of the blade.

When equipped, this weapon lowers the Medic's maximum health by 10, reducing his total health to 140. On the other hand, every hit against an enemy using the Vita-Saw "collects" their organs (also spawning a purely-cosmetic generic organ gib). After dying, the Medic respawns with whatever ÜberCharge value they died with, but only up to a maximum based on the number of organs harvested in the previous life, each organ allowing 15% ÜberCharge to be retained, to a maximum of 60%.

If the player kills an enemy Demoman wielding the Eyelander, Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker or Nessie's Nine Iron, a Soldier wielding the Air Strike, a Sniper wielding the Bazaar Bargain, or a Medic wielding the Vita-Saw, they receive an amount of organs relative to the kills or organs the victim had collected.

Trivia
The ÜberCharge stored is kept if the player switches teams, but is lost if they change classes. The Vita-Saw stores charge upon death, and therefore the Medic can use a different melee weapon while building charge or even change melee loadout while respawning. So long as he dies with it equipped and does not change classes, the Medic respawns with his previous ÜberCharge percentage to the maximum limit of 60%. An ÜberCharge is always lost when a round ends (when the objective of the game is met; i.e. all points in a map are captured).<!-- may need reconfirmation after new update -->

* It very closely resembles the large needle syringe carried around by the Little Sisters from the game BioShock. Its name is also similar to the Vita-Chamber from the same game, a device which resurrect individuals who die in their vicinity.
+
Similar to the Ubersaw, the vial fills up with a team-colored liquid as an ÜberCharge is built and drain as it is deployed.
* A small "skull and bones" symbol has been scratched into the blade of the saw, with eight tally marks next to it.

* This weapon houses the possible in-joke of Medic being a Little Sister and Heavy being the Big Daddy. The stats of the weapon help this claim by making the Medic a little more dependent on a teammate due to lower health.

* The liquid within the vial on the back is jiggleboned, which means that it will swirl around in the vial as the Medic moves.

* The Vita-Saw is randomly available through Mann Co. Supply Crates which are dropped in game by drop system, as well as through regular random item drops.

* The Vita-Saw's design seems to be an amalgam of the Medic's Übersaw, Syringe Gun (barrel), and the Medic's beta needle weapon.

*Currently, the Vita-Saw has the same taunt as the Bonesaw, where he plays the weapon like a violin.  Due to the needle, it appears as though he is stabbing himself in the neck.

*If a Medic actives his ÜberCharge, but dies while its activated, as long as the Charge does not dip below 19%, he will retain that 19%.

*The ÜberCharge will be kept even if you change teams, however it will be lost if you change classes.

Did that sting? "Saw-ry!"
The Medic on saws with needles

The Vita-Saw (/vaɪtɑːsɔː/ veye-tah-saw) is a community-created melee weapon for the Medic.

An ÜberCharge is always lost when a round ends (when the objective of the game is met; i.e. all points in a map are captured).

Similar to the Ubersaw, the vial fills up with a team-colored liquid as an ÜberCharge is built and drain as it is deployed.

The kill icon for the Vita-Saw was contributed by Psyke .

The Vita-Saw was later contributed to the Steam Workshop, at Valve's request.
