Competitive Mode is the newest official game mode released in Team Fortress 2. The mode is accessible only by having a Premium TF2 account and steam mobile authenticator enabled, owning a Competitive Matchmaking Beta Pass or a Community or Self-Made quality item. If a player has a Premium account but has had a VAC ban on their account, the only way to get it is to buy a pass from the Mann Co. Store. The "Play Competitive" button will only appear if the player has associated their Steam account with the Steam Mobile Authenticator and has joined the official Team Fortress 2 Competitive Steam Group, even if they meet the requirements above. Like regular matches, there are no bans to any weapon and/or class that can be used.

Gameplay
Competitive Mode is be a more refined version of the standard Multiplayer game modes, but will have a much less chaotic and random nature than Public Matches. Once players join the game, they will have the option to mark themselves as "ready" to start the game (Similar to the Mann vs. Machine game mode). Once a player marks themselves as ready, a timer will start counting down to the match start.
Ranks
Each player has a rank which can be leveled up by doing well in competitive matches. Players start at the rank "Fresh Meat" and can level the rank up as they win more matches.
