Maul is a community-created Versus Saxton Hale map released during the Swissmas 2024. It features a new holiday-themed rendition of Saxton Hale, alongside new voice lines.
Maul was contributed to the Steam Workshop.
Locations
- Control Point - A control point placed on a slightly elevated overhang on the second layer of the mall. It has a set of stairs leading up to it.
- The Cinema - The outside section of a movie theater. This serves as BLU team's spawn at the start of the round.
- Saxton's Secret Package - A Christmas decoration sporting a set of massive presents beneath. The centerpiece is a massive present that Saxton Hale bursts out of at the beginning of the round..
- Mall First Floor Area 1 - The smaller section of the mall's first floor. It contains 2 separate pickup locations. The first sports a large health and small ammo pickup. The second contain a medium health and a large ammo pickup.
- Mall First Floor Area 2 - The larger section of the mall's first floor. It contains a waterfall with a pool of water. There is also a medium pickup of both health and ammo adjacent to the water.
- Mall Second Floor - The second floor of the mall. It contains 2 medium health and ammo pickups.

December 11, 2024 Patch (Smissmas 2024)
- Maul was added to the game.
- Players can no longer hide from Saxton in the dark.
- Fixed props inside other props.
- Fixed z-fighting brushes.
- Fixed missing particle effects for the water feature.
- Fixed orientation of water feature particles.
- Minor lighting changes around the cinema.
- Adjusted LOD change distances for Cinema sign.
- Updated VSH logic.
- Grounded levitating props.
- Aligned misaligned textures.
- Fixed mis-textured walls.
- Clipped upper metal beams.
- Fixed clip brushes sticking out from walls that could be walked on.
- Players will now be pushed off of the fire bell.
- Adjusted cinema sign shadow.
- Used spell check on Saxton's Package sign.
- Updated how music is activated and deactivated.
- Fixed clipping on the hanging big ornaments.
- Fixed broken areaportals.
- Changed some props in the upper area that could be mistaken for a large ammo pack.
Notes
- While playing this map, the background color from RED team's icons for the Rock, Paper, Scissors are changed from orange to green, alongside the shockwave particles upon winning.
Trivia
- Outside the map's boundaries, a hidden message can be found alongside with a bird railing on a skateboard. This can only be visible when using
noclip. - Maul's aesthetic is an amalgamation of different malls, including Liberty Mall from the Dead Center campaign in Left 4 Dead 2.[1]
