The Reserve Shooter is a community-made secondary weapon for the Soldier and Pyro. It is a pump-action shotgun with a wooden forend and stock, and an olive-shaded metal barrel and receiver. A white U.S. army insignia is also visible on the weapon.
At the cost of having only three shells per magazine, this weapon increases the speed in which the user switches between weapons by 15%. It is also able to deliver mini-crits to airborne targets for 3 seconds after switching to it. Unlike the Direct Hit, the mini-crits from the Reserve Shooter are awarded even if the enemy was not launched into the air by explosive damage.
Taunting with the Reserve Shooter equipped allows the Pyro to perform a deadly Hadouken.

Update history
June 23, 2011 Patch (Über Update)
- The Reserve Shooter was added to the game.
- Fixed a bug where the Reserve Shooter would Mini-Crit against swimming targets.
- Added/Refined recoil/draw/crit/reload forces for all of the new weapons in the Über Update.
October 13, 2011 Patch (Manniversary Update & Sale)
- [Undocumented] The Reserve Shooter can now be equipped by the Pyro.
Bugs
- When Soldier taunts with this weapon, the Shotgun sounds are used.
- When being pumped, the forend clips through the metal ring that is attached to the barrels.
- While reloading, it is possible to force the reload animation to loop endlessly by holding both the primary and alt-fire buttons after reloading at least one shell. This can be similarly performed with the Frontier Justice, Family Business and Shotgun.
- The World model for the Pyro's Reserve Shooter has the shell and slide sticking out below the shell loading port.
- If a Pyro airblasts an enemy downward, they will take mini-crit damage from the Reserve Shooter as if they were in the air until they jump.
- When looking at the Reserve Shooter in the Pyro loadout, the loadout will still assume the weapon is in the Airborne Armaments item set.
Trivia
- A Reserve Shooter is someone who provides backup for the front lines should any error occur.
- According to concept art, the Reserve Shooter was originally designed for the Engineer, as the concept art shows an Engineer's gloved hand holding it.
- When reloading, the Pyro loads no actual shells. His hand is empty.
