The Boston Basher is a community-created melee weapon for the Scout. It is a bloodstained wooden club covered with spikes and reinforced with metal bands.

This weapon inflicts a five-second bleed effect upon hitting an enemy. Missing the hit, however, applies the damage and bleed effect to the wearer instead; therefore, careful precision is required when attacking up close, particularly with the added risk from the Scout's movement speed.

The self-damage effect is not applied if the player hits a teammate or any solid object such as a wall, floor or prop. Missing with a critical swing causes the critical hit sound effect, though only normal damage is inflicted. While under the effects of a Medic's ÜberCharge, missing causes no damage to the player.

Despite its main damage dealing purpose, the Boston Basher can also serve as a means of quickly charging up a Medic's ÜberCharge and if correctly timed, can also provide the Scout with a third or fourth jump, also known as a triple or quad jump. These types of jumps can help assist a Scout to reach higher or further distant areas or ledges, set up ambushes and make escapes not normally possible without the use of the Force-A-Nature and the knock back effect it provides.

The weapon was originally created for the Fancy vs. Nasty Update as a replacement for the Sandman, and has since been officially added to the game.
