“ | This Spy has already breached our defenses...
You've seen what he's done to our colleagues! And worst of all: He could be any one of us. — The BLU Spy on the RED Spy
|
” |
Hailing from an indeterminate region of France, the Spy is an aficionado of sharp suits and even sharper knives, relying on stealth and trickery to aid the team. Using his unique array of cloaking watches, he can render himself invisible and even fake his own death, leaving unaware opponents off-guard. His Disguise Kit lets him take on the form of any class, allowing him to blend in while behind enemy lines before stabbing his unsuspecting 'teammates' in the back, quite literally. In fact, a swift backstab from behind with the Spy's trusty Knife will take out any foe in a single hit.
In addition to being able to assassinate key enemies quickly and efficiently, the Spy is great against the Engineer. Using his Sappers, he can disable the Engineer's buildings, slowly draining their health until they are destroyed, unless fixed by an Engineer or a Pyro using a Homewrecker. The Spy is voiced by Dennis Bateman.

Trivia
- The Spy's old bio appears on his trading card, reading: "A master of disguise, misdirection, and the byzantine details of who really runs things, the Spy is a double reverse quadruple agent whose reflexive suspicion is entirely justified."
- The BLU Scout's Mother is in a relationship with the RED Spy. A file in the BLU base contains photos documenting their activities. The Spy refers to her as "Ma Petite Chou-fleur" ("My Little Cauliflower").
- The Spy is known to speak phrases in Italian, French, Spanish and Catalan.
- A BLU Spy periodically appeared behind the RED Sniper in the Day 3 post of the Sniper Update, before the joint Spy Update was ultimately revealed.
- The Spy's suit colors changed prior to the game's release. The RED Spy originally wore a gray suit, while the BLU Spy's suit was a different shade of blue. Both had a striped tie and team-colored bands on their suits and arms, which made them resemble Team Fortress Classic's Civilian. These suits can still be seen in the Spy's HUD icon.
- While the Sniper, Soldier and Demoman are also known smokers, the Spy is the only class to actually hold a cigarette in his mouth during gameplay.
- The Spy and Sniper are the only two classes that wear watches. However, the Spy's watch is for cloaking only and can not keep time.
- Occasionally when you are shot as the Spy you will hear the Pyro's grunt of pain. This could be because of the fact that both the Pyro and the Spy are voiced by Dennis Bateman.
- He and Medic are the classes with the least hats.
