A Headshot is a successful attack to the head of an enemy with a scoped Sniper Rifle shot, Huntsman arrow, or Ambassador bullet. Headshots deal guaranteed Critical hits; unless a damage reducing effect is active, a fully charged headshot from the Sniper Rifle will instantly kill any class, including an overhealed Heavy. The hitbox for the head of any class will always remain centered on the Y axis of rotation, no matter what the onscreen appearance may dictate.
Snipers wielding the Sniper Rifle may only perform headshots after waiting twenty-three milliseconds while scoped in. The Huntsman is not restricted in this regard and is able to land headshots without being charged. An attack from the Sydney Sleeper that hits the head will not deal critical damage.
Spies using the Ambassador can only score headshots periodically; there is an period of inaccuracy after each shot, indicated by an enlarged crosshair, where the Ambassador cannot headshot.
Pyros with exceptional aim can perform headshots by reflecting Huntsman arrows with the compression blast.
Killing an enemy with a headshot yields an extra half point, for a total of 1.5 points per headshot kill. Scoring a lethal headshot with a Huntsman arrow yields an additional half point, for a total of 2 points.
Headshotting an enemy can cause their hat to fly off, assuming they are wearing one. This includes default hats like the one the Sniper wears.

Trivia
- There is a 25% chance that a player killed by a headshot will enter a special death animation appropriate to that class (e.g. the Pyro does a backflip).
- A Sniper with the Croc-O-Style Kit cannot be killed by any headshot, unless he has 1 hitpoint left.
