The Overdose is a primary weapon for the Medic. It is a prototype Syringe Gun, sporting a white and team-colored needle disposal container in place of a needle cache.
This weapon deals 10% less damage to enemies than the default Syringe Gun. However, as the Medic builds up his ÜberCharge, his movement speed will increase by 1% for every 10% of ÜberCharge gained, for a total increase of 10% at 100% ÜberCharge. This bonus only applies when the Overdose is your active weapon.
The Overdose was previously tested in Team Fortress 2 Beta as the Beta Syringe Gun.

Update history
April 26, 2011 Patch (Beta)
- The Beta Syringe Gun was added to the game.
- Applies Mad Milk for 1 second
- 50% slower firing rate
- 90% less damage
- Increased Mad Milk duration to 2 seconds.
- Damage penalty reduced to 50% (from 90%), which means the Medic now gains health on hit.
- [Undocumented] Medics can no longer coat teammates with milk.
- [Undocumented] Übercharge percentage increases movement speed by up to 10%.
- [Undocumented] Syringes no longer infect the target with Mad Milk.
- [Undocumented] Damage penalty decreased from -50% damage done to -10% damage done.

Unused Content
- There are a set of sounds listed for the weapon in the GCF that are identical to the Syringe Gun sounds.
Bugs
- The trigger for the Overdose, unlike that of the other Medic primary weapons, does not move when fired and subsequently clips into the Medic's fingers.
- When the Overdose is reloaded, no air cylinders are ejected, or inserted.
- The unique firing sound effects for the Overdose do not play properly, causing the item to share sounds with the Syringe Gun.
Trivia
- The model for the Overdose was shown on the promotional image for the Double Drop Week on June 2nd, 2011, on the official TF2 blog, before the weapon was released in the Über Update. [1]
- An overdose is a lethal dosage of a drug.
