Map Overview
Doomsday overview.png
Doomsday pits BLU against RED, with only one team getting the honor of transporting a suitcase nuke full of recalled Mann Co. Australium to American monkeynaut Poopy Joe’s rocket, so he can blast off and hunt down Soviet space chimp Vladimir Bananas. It's the same spirit of competitive enterprise that stalled the moon landing by three years when Buzz Aldrin suplexed Neil Armstrong into a pile of folding chairs at Astromania '69! Both teams will attempt to get the necessary fuel up a preposterously slow-moving elevator and into Poopy Joe’s Australium-powered rocket to the stars.

Doomsday is a Special Delivery map in which both teams attempt to deliver a package of Australium to Poopy Joe to use as fuel so he can rocket into space. Both teams compete to deliver the Australium to the launch pad and stay there until they can insert the Australium into the rocket's tip. Once a team has stood on the platform long enough, while in control of the Australium, the Rocket will launch.

The map features a suitcase nuke which is the primary objective of the map. It will be locked for approximately 45 seconds before becoming available for capture by both teams. Once the Australium has been acquired, the player carrying the precious metal must battle their way towards the cargo lift at the base of the rocket. Should the player holding the Australium be killed, a member of their team must reclaim it, as the enemy team cannot. If no one picks it up within 30 seconds, then the Australium will be returned to its starting position. The team holding the Australium must then survive long enough for the lift to reach the top of the rocket and for the top of the rocket to open, revealing a cargo container. The player holding the Australium must approach it to install it onto the rocket, and upon successful delivery, the team to whom the player belongs wins the current round.

Following this, the rocket will launch upwards, encounter a staggering failure in the engines, and crash land upon the enemy's base (facing the rocket from the platform, BLU base is to the right, and RED base is to the left).

June 28, 2012 Patch

  • Added sd_doomsday to the mapcycle files
  • Players can now fall into the launch pad after the rocket lifts off
  • Optimized some prop_dynamics to reduce server hitching
  • Engineers can no longer build Teleporters behind the spawn
  • Players will no longer get pushed through the terrain if the elevator falls on them
  • Death pits now kill Dead Ringer Spies
  • Lowered the frequency of announcer lines

Bugs

  • The smoke from the explosion of Poopy Joe's rocket is still visible in the next round.
  • The Announcer may refer to the Australium as the Intelligence, as in Capture the Flag. Characters will also re-use lines from Capture the Flag when placing the Australium in the rocket.
  • It is possible to clip through the rocket entirely. However, the cap cannot be clipped through, which may lead to players getting stuck between the rising elevator and the cap.
  • Players can clip through the drainage pipe just under the rocket platform, allowing them to (briefly) go outside the world.

Trivia

  • The logo on the Mann Co. Monkeynautics rocket is based on the Template:W (NASA) logo (c. 1959-1982, 1992-present).
  • There is a piece of paper near the Australium spawn that says "Weaponized Austrailum", and under it is a shipping number. The shipping number says 19986410SJ - this may be a throwback to E3 1998 when Template:W was given Template:W for "Best PC Game" and "Best Action Game".
  • The map also contains two secret rooms. The first secret room similar to the one seen in Foundry (behind BLU spawn room). It contains a BLU Spy reviewing a map with various markings. Behind him is a row of four pictures hung across the room supposedly depicting robotic versions of the Heavy, Demoman, and Pyro. Another secret room is behind RED spawn room.
  • In both of the spawn rooms, there is a picture of the Director with a MISSING sign written above it.
