The Spy on the Maul's design

The Maul is a promotional melee weapon for the Pyro. It is modeled after the eponymous sledgehammer from Red Faction: Armageddon.

This weapon functions in exactly the same way as the Homewrecker.

This item was awarded in Genuine to players who pre-purchased Red Faction: Armageddon on Steam before June 6, 2011.[1]

Update history

June 3, 2011 Patch

  • The Maul was added to the game.

June 8, 2011 Patch

  • Updated the Maul's kill icon; the weapon now faces the victim.

June 14, 2011 Patch

  • Made the Maul craftable and tradable.

Bugs

  • One of the Maul's positive attributes is "100% damage vs. buildings", which suggests that it deals normal melee damage to buildings. The Maul actually deals double damage to buildings; a more correct wording would be "+100% damage vs buildings" or "200% damage vs buildings".

Trivia

  • Along with a few other games, Red Faction: Armageddon was not available for pre-order in the United Kingdom, making this item unobtainable in Genuine quality in that region.
  • The Arsonist achievement can be obtained by destroying enemy Sappers. While this is not technically a bug (as Sappers are buildings), it does defy the achievement's description of "Engineer buildings".
