The B.A.S.E. Jumper is a secondary weapon for the Soldier and a primary weapon for the Demoman. It is a parachuting backpack with a spade decal, a sewn-on patch with a parachute logo, a red release handle, and a tag attached to a piece of rope, with the tag reading "#64"

This weapon allows the wearer to, whilst in midair, press the jump key (default key: Spacebar) to activate a parachute, slowing and capping their vertical descent to 112 Hammer units (roughly 37.3% of normal speed or 4.8 mph) and allowing them to better control their ability to strafe. Pressing the jump key again will deactivate the parachute, allowing players to fall normally. The player can then reactivate the parachute in midair, as many times as they want. Players can attack with any of their weapons while the parachute is deployed. Activating the parachute while burning will stop the fall and make the player hover until the fire disappears.

The B.A.S.E. Jumper can be deployed whenever the player is in the air, whether by jumping, explosive jumping, or knockback. Soldiers using the B.A.S.E. Jumper can successfully use the Market Gardener to land critical hits on players, regardless of how many times the parachute as been deployed in mid-air, as long as the original jump was an explosive jump.

If the B.A.S.E Jumper is Deployed whilst the player is on fire, the player will not fall.

The B.A.S.E. Jumper was contributed to the Steam Workshop under the name "Troop Chute".

Bugs

  • One can craft the B.A.S.E. Jumper with incorrect slot and class tokens. i.e. Demoman class token with Secondary slot token.
  • If a player dies with a deployed parachute, the parachute will float in the ground, using the same animation as falling.

Trivia

  • B.A.S.E. stands for Building, Antenna, Span, and Earth (ie cliffs); and the name as a whole is in reference to BASE jumping. It is also a pun, because video gamers often call their start location a "base."
