Meet the Demoman
DemomanVidSplash.png

A scrumpy-swilling demolitions expert from the Scottish highlands, the Demoman (real name Tavish DeGroot) is one of the more versatile members of the team. Though his weapons lack pinpoint long-range accuracy, the Demoman is a powerful, if unpredictable, asset and can hold his own in just about any situation. He is a master of explosives, excelling at indirect, mid-range combat. Armed with his Grenade Launcher and Sticky bombs, the Demoman uses his only good eye and knowledge of the surrounding environment for well timed detonations that send enemies skyward.

The Demoman excels at swift disassembly; he can bounce his grenades in creative angles to wreak havoc on enemy Sentry Gun emplacements while remaining safely out of sight. His sticky bombs are a perfect tool for area denial, keeping opponents away from any carts, control points and Intelligence cases he deems off-limits.

The Demoman is voiced by Gary Schwartz.

Trivia

  • The Heavy and the Demoman are both voiced by Gary Schwartz.
  • The Demoman was born to a clan of Scottish Demomen whose motto is "In regione caecorum rex est luscus", which roughly translates as "In the realm of the blind, the one eyed man is king." According to his mother, his father lost both his eyes before he was 30 and maintained 26 jobs until his dying day.[2]
  • The Demoman's old trading card bio is largely the same, except that his original parents are killed rather than his adoptive set.
  • The HUD icon of the Demoman is inverted horizontally, as he is depicted as left-handed. The Demoman's patch is also on the wrong eye.
  • The Demoman has 3 jobs, a $5 million salary, and lives in a mansion with his blind mother in the Badlands of New Mexico. [2]
  • The Demoman seems to be highly sensitive about his missing eye. A trip to the 'Eye Museum' with the BLU Soldier caused the RED Demoman to break into tears.[3]
  • The WAR!: The BLU Soldier and the RED Demoman became fast friends after meeting at a projectile weapons expo. They shared many experiences together including deep sea fishing, a trip to Las Vegas, and the 'Gravel Pits of America' scenic bus tour. After the Administrator's assistant Miss Pauling brought the matter to her attention (as friendships are forbidden by Mercenary contract), the Administrator decided to introduce a little 'healthy competition' to kill their blossoming friendship.
The Demoman lost the seven day War waged between him and the Soldier, thus losing out on his chance to obtain the Gunboats.
  • He was a part of the KritzKast contest as well, which submitters were supposed to fill in what they think the Demoman said in the portion of the Meet the Demoman video when he is being censored.
