The Soldier on the art of war

The Soldier is a crazed patriot from the heart of America, and the bread and butter general assault unit of the team. Although he's one of the simpler classes, he is far from the weakest. Equipped with his Rocket Launcher and 200 Health Points to spare, the Soldier is a highly versatile class for both offensive and defensive roles, and a great starter class to get familiar with the game.

The Soldier is also well known for his spectacular rocket jump. In defiance of all good sense and judgment, the Soldier can shoot a rocket at his feet to launch himself skyward at the cost of some health. This ability allows the Soldier to pop up in unexpected places and reach areas off-limits even to the Scout's double-jump.

The two grenades on the Soldier's character model cannot be used in any circumstance other than using the Kamikaze taunt while the Equalizer is equipped.

The Soldier is voiced by Rick May.

Support of Soldiers

Basic strategy

  • You can rocket jump to great heights by simultaneously jumping and firing a rocket at the ground.
  • Aim rockets at enemy's feet to ensure they can't avoid the explosion damage.
  • Make sure you keep your Rocket Launcher loaded. Hit R to reload it at any time.
  • Press E to call for a Medic if you get hurt. Nearby Medics will be notified of your need.

Bugs

  • If a Primary weapon is fired when the player is initially spawned into the game, a continuous loop of the reload animation can occur. This can be remedied by firing another shot or switching weapon to Secondary or Melee.
    • If the "Auto Reload" option was enabled and started reloading while taunting, the continuous loop of the reload animation will occur.

Trivia

  • The Soldier has made several posts on the Official Blog, often referring to the Team Fortress 2 team as "The Powers That Be".
  • In Poker Night at the Inventory, an image of the BLU Soldier makes a cameo as the King card for the black suits (spades and clubs) in the "Team Fortress 2" card deck.
  • Template:W served as the first BLU team Soldier.
  • In Worms: Reloaded, the Soldier's helmet appears as one of the hats selectable for the player's worms.
  • The Soldier is apparently the voice of his team as shown on the blogs.
