— The Scout on himself

A fast running, fast talking and smack talking kid from Boston with a penchant for baseball and grievous bodily harm, the Scout flies like a butterfly and stings like a Shotgun blast to the face. The fastest of all the classes, his speed and ability to double jump will leave slower opponents spinning. This, coupled with his Scattergun, Shortstop or the Force-A-Nature, makes the Scout ideal at hit and run tactics, allowing him to inflict massive close-range damage before dashing away to safety. Not content with only one way to harass his foes, the Scout can also equip his trusty Sandman to Stun opponents with long-range baseballs, or equip his Bonk! Atomic Punch to make a getaway without taking damage.
The Scout is an ideal choice if you need an objective done quickly; capturing points and moving carts twice as fast as his teammates and spiriting the enemy Intelligence away before they even know he's there. His petite stature and swiftness makes him a befitting class to provide distractions.
With the addition of Mad Milk, the Scout now possesses a strong team support role. The 'Mad Milk', like Jarate, is a thrown 'team-support' item that can be used to put out fire, identify cloaked Spies and heal team mates.

Trivia
- The BLU Scout's Mother is in a relationship with the RED Spy. A file in the BLU base contains photos documenting their "activities".
- The Scout seems to be aware he is in a game, as indicated by 3 of his dialogue lines:
- "No otha' class gonna do dat!", the only time a class has actually referred to themselves as a class.
- "This map ain't big enough for the two of us!", the only time a class has referred to the battle ground they are on as a map.
- "Yeah, I dare ya, rage-quit! C'mon, make us both happy!"
- The Scout's right eye is at the position 1.337 on the X-axis.
- After players noted a resemblance between the Scout and TV pitchman Vince Offer, several players requested that Valve add a reference to this in-game. With the release of the Scout update, lines such as "If you order now, I'll throw in an extra beatin', absolutely free!" and "o otha' class gonna do dat!" were added to the game files.
- The Scout has the same voice actor as the "Church Guy" character in Valve title Left 4 Dead. The voices used by Nathan Vetterlein for both characters are strikingly similar.
- The Scout's symbol (a talaria, or winged shoe/sandal) is a reference to Hermes; the messenger of the gods in Greek mythology.
- The information of him having 8 brothers is a likely reference that nobody knows what the Pyro is. (8 classes that are for sure men.)
