The Half-Zatoichi is a promotional melee weapon for the Soldier and Demoman. It is a samurai's Template:W with a circular guard with rounded notches, adorned with brown hilt wrapping.
Whenever the Half-Zatoichi becomes the active weapon, it cannot be switched for another until a kill is made or the player touches a Resupply locker. Once an enemy is slain with the weapon, the blade will become decorated with the victim's blood and it can be switched. To offset this limitation, the weapon will restore the user's health to 100% upon a successful kill. In addition, wielding this weapon allows the player to instantly slay any enemy brandishing a Half-Zatoichi of their own. Unlike the Demoman's other swords, this weapon utilizes standard melee range.
Taunting as a Demoman with this weapon equipped will perform the Decapitation kill taunt. Successfully killing someone with the taunt will allow the Demoman to sheath the weapon.
Players who pre-purchased Total War: Shogun 2 on Steam before March 15, 2011 were awarded with a Genuine quality version of this item.

Bugs
- The Soldier's thumb clips through the guard in third person view.
- The weapon clips with the Demoman's body when taunting.
- Neither the Soldier, nor the Demoman fully grip the sword in first person view. This is because the view models are recycled from the Shovel and Eyelander respectively.
- The weapon uses the Demoman and Soldier's RED sleeves in first person view, regardless of their team.
- Players are able to switch between the Half-Zatoichi and other weapons if done so before the draw animation ends and the idle animation begins. It is unknown if this is a bug or intended.
- The loadout screen shows the Demoman holding the Half-Zatoichi in the same one-handed manner as the Bottle, Frying Pan, Ullapool Caber, and the Persian Persuader. In-game, he holds it in the same two-handed manner as he does with the Eyelander, Scotsman's Skullcutter, Claidheamh Mòr and Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker which all appear correctly in the loadout screen.
- It is possible to get the Demoman achievement Scotch Tap twice with this weapon.
- A Spy disguised as a Demoman, wielding the Half-Zatoichi, will hold it like the Bottle.
- After setting someone on fire with the Cow Mangler 5000's charged shot, should the victim die as the Soldier holding the Half-Zatoichi, the weapon will become bloodied but the player will remain honorbound.
Unused content
- A kill icon exists for Half-Zatoichi duel kills, but it is currently unused.
Trivia

- The weapon attribute is a reference to the legend of Template:W, a famous Japanese swordsmith, who is said to have forged swords that, once drawn, could not be sheathed again until the blade had drawn blood.
- In the censored version of Team Fortress 2, the weapon is not covered in blood after a kill.
