The Half-Zatoichi is a melee weapon for the Soldier and Demoman. It appears as a samurai's katana with a circular guard with rounded notches and brown hilt wrapping.
Once active, the Half-Zatoichi cannot be switched to another weapon until a kill is made. Upon killing, the player's health is restored in full and the Half-Zatoichi will become decorated with the blood of one's now fallen target. Anyone wielding a Half-Zatoichi can instantly slay any enemy actively brandishing a Half-Zatoichi of their own.
The Half-Zatoichi was released with the Shogun Pack, awarded in Genuine quality to players who preordered Total War: SHOGUN 2 on Steam before March 15, 2011. It is also available through crafting, item drops, or purchase from the Mann Co. Store.

Trivia
- Template:W is a fictional character in many Japanese films, who is a very able swordsman even though he is blind. The "half" part of the name is because the Soldier and Demoman are visually impared but not fully blind (through ill-fitting hats and a missing eye, respectively).
- The "duel" attribute to the Half-Zatoichi resembles the "single stroke battle" popularized in Japanese culture, where a battle between two katana-wielding warriors is decided with a single slash of a sword.
- The fact that the Half-Zatoichi cannot be "sheathed" until it makes a kill bears resemblance to the swords forged by Template:W — a famous swordsmith in 16th century Japan — which were thought to have an unnatural blood lust, refusing to be sheathed until they drew blood.
