ホーリーマカラルはスカウトの近接武器です。魚で、輪ゴムを使って色あせている新聞で包装されて、楽に取り扱えるように形成されています。この武器は、デフォルトのバットと同じ性能で、罵倒も同じです。しかしながら、魚にピシャリと叩かれるのは屈辱的で、叩かれるたびにHUDに叩かれた回数が表示されます。ホーリーマカラルによって殺されると、"魚deキル！"と表示されます。

変更点
- The weapon is altered to not display the hit message concerning disguised Spies.
- A hit with the fish no longer counts as a kill, as this would cause problems with achievements and some statistics systems.
- The hit message no longer awards the player First Blood during an Arena match.
バグ
- The flipped viewmodel version of this weapon appears as if it has been turned inside out. [1]
- Upon hitting a Spy who has the Dead Ringer activated, the kill icon will only display one fish hit and not a fish kill. This can be used as an easier way to detect Dead Ringer Spies.
- When being healed by a Medic, every slap counts as an assist for the Medic.
トリビア
- The Holy Mackerel is always a Level 42 Fish; the number 42 might be a reference to Douglas Adams' book series, Template:W, in which 42 is considered to be the answer to "Life, The Universe, and Everything."
- Two further references are the books Template:W (of which the title was taken from a line in the original book), a title in the book series and Template:W, a posthumous collection of various essays and an unfinished novel written by Adams shortly before his death.
- 24 is the maximum amount of hits one can make on a single target in the kill feed before the hit announcement disappears.
- "Holy Mackerel!" is also an expression of surprise found commonly in comedy TV shows, as well as cartoons and other children's TV shows.
- The Holy Mackerel will not add to the kill feed when hitting an Engineer building or the Horseless Headless Horsemann.
- Before a patch, the Holy Mackerel would have a kill feed icon with "x1" when destroying a building.
- The texture file of The Holy Mackerel reveals that the newspaper The Holy Mackerel is carried in is named "The Gravel Pit".
