— The Medic
|
” |
A Teutonic man of medicine with a rather tenuous adherence to medical ethics, the Medic is nonetheless the primary healing class of the team. As the Medic does not possess the best arsenal for straight-up gunplay, he can typically be found near the front-lines, healing wounded teammates while trying to stay out of trouble. While his Medigun is focused on an ally, wounded teammates will quickly regain health, while unharmed teammates' health will be temporarily topped up. While healing, the Medic's ÜberCharge bar will fill up until the weapon begins to crackle, at which point he can activate a deadly charge that either makes himself and an ally temporarily invulnerable or gives his patient 100% Critical shots for up to 8 seconds.
The Medic is the only class capable of regenerating health over time; the longer a Medic stays out of combat, the faster his health will recover. A damaged Medic will regenerate health at a rate of 3 HP per second, which scales up over the following ten seconds to a maximum of 6 HP per second (though carrying the Blutsauger reduces the regeneration rate from 3-6 to 1-4).

Basic Strategy
- Use your Medigun to heal teammates, and buff them up to 150% of their normal health.
- Fill your ÜberCharge by healing teammates. Then hit MOUSE2 to go invulnerable.
- Your ÜberCharge makes both you and your Medigun target invulnerable for a short time.
- You fill your ÜberCharge faster by healing teammates who are more hurt.
- Keep alert for teammates calling for your help. Use the Medic arrows onscreen to find them.

Trivia
- The Medic, along with the Pyro, did not receive a job description and motto in Trailer 2, though the trailer for the canceled Black Box does feature footage of him firing his Syringe Gun in the beta 2Fort.
- The Medic is the only class not to receive a taunt attack in his own update, however one of his taunts was later altered to heal him. He then received an actual taunt kill in a later update, making the Medic one of two classes, along with the Engineer, with two taunts that have an effect.
- The Medic is voiced by Template:W, who has voiced numerous other characters for video games including Template:W, Template:W and Template:W.
- If a Medic is killed while having an ÜberCharge prepared but undeployed, his ragdoll will briefly be surrounded by electricity.
- According to one of the Demoman's domination lines, the Medic has a wife. Whether the Demoman is a reliable source of information is a different question entirely.
- The Medic is the only class who wears glasses for eyesight reasons.
- The Medic, along with the Pyro, are the only classes who have not received any new lines, either in-game or in the Meet the Team videos, since the game was released. The Medic and the Pyro are also the only characters who did not receive new voice responses during their class update.
- Although he lived through the Second World War, and his bio hints at a dark past, Valve has stated that the Medic is not a former Nazi.
- There are two unused voice commands for calling the Medic: one, two. These were most likely temporary sounds during testing, or from the canceled version of TF2, where it was much more realistic and military themed.
- Out of all the classes, the Medic speaks the most in a language other than English. About half his dialogue is German, although the way he uses his native language often seems out of place, and he sometimes structures sentences oddly (as in instead of saying "Stop losing," he says "Losing is verboten" ('forbidden' in German). His accent also sometimes sounds odd, and he will occasionally pronounce words incorrectly.
- Suitably, the Medic seems to be the only class without a liable health problem. The Scout has an extremely high sugar intake (and possible radiation poisoning), the Soldier undergoes frequent leg fracturing, the Pyro's lungs are ravaged from his asbestos-lined suit, the Demoman is an alcoholic, the Heavy is overweight, the Engineer crippled himself, the Sniper has impeding kidney failure, and the Spy is a casual smoker. Despite his peers, the Medic so far seems to be completely healthy, aside from his mental health and sadism, traits that all the classes seem to exhibit to some degree.
- The Medic's version of the Mildly Disturbing Halloween Mask has a huge ghoulish face with stitches on its forehead, a reference to Frankenstein's monster and the Medic's slight mad scientist nature.
- The Medic has the most class-specific achievements, with 37.
- The Medic is the only class with his own class-specific voice command (to alert teammates of a full ÜberCharge)
- To date, The Medic and The Spy are the only classes without community-made weapons.
- As of the Engineer Update, some classes, when calling for a Medic, will ask him to follow them if they are looking directly at him.
- The Medic was the first class of the 9 to receive his own class specific update. This update was prompted due to players feeling the Medic was underpowered and was therefore the least played class overall. After the Gold Rush/Medic Update was released, the amount of players playing Medic on a regular basis increased dramatically.
- Originally, players had to unlock every single Medic achievement to receive the Übersaw; the backlash from this, coupled with the difficulty of some of the Medic achievements, was one of the reasons why the item drop system was introduced and the achievement requirement lowered.
- In the Newly Released polycount update, the Medic has apparently gotten a new ÜberCharge saw, called the Vita-Saw [1] This Weapon looks very similar to the Adam Syringe that the Little Sisters carry around in BioShock.
