MedicVidSplash.png
... Let's go practice medicine.
The Medic, making preparations

The Medic is a Teutonic man of medicine. While he may have a tenuous adherence to medical ethics, he is nonetheless the primary healing class of the team. Although the Medic's Syringe Gun and Bonesaw aren't the greatest weapons for direct combat, he can typically still be found near the front lines, healing wounded teammates while trying to stay out of trouble.

When the Medic focuses his Medi Gun on a teammate, they will regain health points. Teammates who are already healthy will have their health buffed beyond the normal limit, up to 150%. Teammates who have not taken damage recently will be healed more rapidly, encouraging smart withdrawals when injured.

When healing, the Medic's unique ÜberCharge bar will gradually be filled, gaining charge faster if healing injured teammates. When the ÜberCharge bar is fully charged, the Medic's healing gun will begin to crackle with small jolts of electricity, indicating that he can now deploy a unique charge to benefit his patient and himself for eight seconds. A charge from the Medi Gun offers temporary invulnerability, a charge from the Kritzkrieg offers his patient guaranteed critical hits, and a charge from the Quick-Fix offers rapid healing and immunity to knock back.

Although the Medic cannot heal himself, he is capable of slowly regenerating health over time; the longer a Medic stays out of combat and avoids taking damage, the faster his health will recover. An injured Medic will begin regenerating health at a rate of 3 health per second, scaling up over the following ten seconds to a maximum of 6 health per second. This base rate can be negatively affected by the Blutsauger and boosted with the Medieval Medic item set.

The Medic is voiced by Robin Atkin Downes.

Special Taunts

Medictaunt06.PNG Associated item Description
Main article: Oktoberfest

The Medic puts his face to the barrel of the Kritzkrieg, inhales while laughing maniacally, and exclaims "Oktoberfest!". Afterward, he exhales, shakes his head, and refocuses.

This taunt heals the Medic for 11 health.
Medicuberkill.png Associated item DescriptionKill Icon
Main article: Spinal Tap

The Medic enters a combat pose, thrusts his Übersaw forward and retracts it while exclaiming, "I'm going to saw through your bones!", stunning and killing any enemies in the way.

If the initial hit strikes an enemy, the Medic will be awarded 25% charge. If the retraction kills an enemy, the ÜberCharge meter gains 75% charge. The hit and retraction will end up equaling 100% but it is possible to only end up with 25% charge or 75% respectively if only the initial hit or the retraction connect for whatever reason.

Bugs

Unused content

  • In the GCF, there is an unused texture for a RED Medic which features his beta hairstyle; lighter and shorter. It is listed as medic_head_red. Both teams in-game use the same head texture.

Trivia

  • The Medic's glasses and hair make an appearance in Worms: Reloaded as one of the selectable hats for the player's worms.
  • The Support class of Monday Night Combat has a promotional item of the Medic's backpack and the Engineer's hardhat named "Doctor Dispenser".
  • The Medic was originally going to have an oversized needle presumably instead of the Bonesaw, as referenced to in a 2006 trailer.
  • The first BLU team Medic resembled Template:W.
  • The Medic keeps a flock of doves as pets, which are allowed to fly around in his office (despite hygiene concerns). One of them is named Archimedes.
    • Archimedes is named after the ancient Greek scientist and seems to share his owner's fascination with blood, evidenced by his leaning in while watching surgery and nesting in open wounds (as both the Heavy and Scout soon found out).
    • According to the Archimedes plush in the Valve store and in-game item description, the Medic obtained Archimedes and possibly his other doves after hijacking a catering van during the prime minister's wedding.
  • The Medic, alongside the Pyro, Heavy, and Engineer, appears as a familiar in the game Template:W.
  • The Medic was briefly given the name of Joseph Heilburg by Gaming Heads, a video game merchandiser, when promoting a Medic figurine; it was removed and is regarded as non-canon. This was most likely taken from a fan-made Halloween update, which used the same name.
