The Medic is a Teutonic man of medicine with a tenuous adherence to medical ethics, and is nonetheless the primary healing class of the team. Although the Medic does not possess the greatest arsenal for direct combat, he can typically still be found near the front-lines, healing wounded team mates while trying to stay out of trouble. When his Medi Gun is focused on a team mate, they will quickly regain health points. Unharmed team mates will have their health buffed beyond the normal limit, up to 150%. While healing, the Medic's unique ÜberCharge bar will fill up until the healing gun begins to crackle with small jolts of electricity, at which point he can activate a charge that makes himself and his patient take on highly beneficial effects for eight seconds ranging from temporary invulnerability with the standard Medi Gun, the guaranteed critical hits using the Kritzkrieg or the very rapid healing and immunity to knock back with the Quick-Fix.
The Medic is capable of regenerating health over time; the longer a Medic stays out of combat, the faster his health will recover. An injured Medic will regenerate health at a rate of 3 HP per second, which scales up over the following ten seconds to a maximum of 6 HP per second, though it should be noted that carrying the Blutsauger reduces the regeneration rate from 3–6 to 1–4 and, conversely, the Medieval Medic item set will raise it to 4–7.
The Medic is voiced by Robin Atkin Downes.

Basic strategy
- Use your Medi Gun to heal teammates, and buff them up to 150% of their normal health.
- Fill your ÜberCharge by healing teammates. Then hit 'MOUSE2' to activate.
- Your ÜberCharge makes both you and your Medi Gun target invulnerable for a short time.
- You fill your ÜberCharge faster by healing teammates who are more hurt.
- Keep alert for teammates calling for your help. Use the Medic arrows onscreen to find them.

The Medic enters a combat pose, thrusts his Übersaw forward and retracts it while exclaiming, "I'm going to saw through your bones!", stunning and killing any enemies in the way. If the initial hit strikes an enemy, the Medic will be awarded 25% charge. If the retraction kills an enemy, the ÜberCharge meter gains 75% charge. The hit and retraction will end up equaling 100% but it is possible to only end up with 25% charge or 75% respectfully if the initial hit or the retraction fail to connect for whatever reason. |

The name was possibly inspired by Merlin's pet owl or from the ancient Greek scientist, Archimedes.
- The Medic is the only one of the nine classes not to have a serious health problem besides his myopia: Scout has radiation poisoning, Soldier breaks his legs often, Pyro has constant contact with harmful crisped asbestos, Demoman is a violent alcoholic, Heavy is morbidly obese, Engineer amputated his arm, Sniper has kidney failure and Spy is a social smoker.
