Back Scratcher Demonstration

My first attempt xD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inS4VG9OE4E I noticed no one had done the back scratcher yet so. here it is :) {{subst:void|This template should always be substituted. Please change {{Unsigned}} to {{subst:Unsigned}}}}The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jerico55 (talk) • (contribs) 2024-11-27, 19:05 UTC

OK, not bad for a first attempt, but there are quite a few things that need fixing:
  • It is not HD and 16:9. Make sure to record at a 16:9 resolution greater than or equal to 1280x720.
  • Don't kill the spy. They spy is only there for taunt kills. Since you cannot taunt kill with the rake, the spy should not be in the video at all.
  • Start recording with your mouseover the weapon. You started with the mouse centered, then moved to mouseover it.
  • You need to demonstrate the healing effects of the backscratcher. You're going to need to spawn a health kit and a friendly medic, then take some damage and show how each heal you.
I am watching it with no audio, because I am at work, so I cannot comment on if you did the music correctly. Also, please create new topics at the bottom of the talk page, and sign your posts by putting ~~~~ at the end. Natemckn 15:14, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the tip, ill try my best to edit it. --Jerico55 15:39, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Here are more things, There's no music and the volume is too low. Shock394 23:02, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Oh wait how to spawn healthkits? i tried googling, i cant seem to found out how, little help? so i can now finish this :) --Jerico55 13:59, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
The only way I can think to do it would be either to use a sourcemod plugin, or go scout and use the candy cane and kill a bot or two before you start recording. Just make sure not to have blood everywhere when you record --Nate (T | C) 14:15, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
riiightt, ill try that --Jerico55 14:39, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Is it ok to use the normal ratio? i dont have a widescreen monitor :(--Jerico55 15:04, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, in order to keep the videos consistent, all videos must be 16:9 and at least 1280x720 resolution. Depending on your setup, you may be able to run at this resolution windowed for recording. --Nate (T | C) 15:20, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Equalizer

I'm interested in making Equalizer's demonstartion but I can't do it during January. Can someone reserve Equalizer for me? Thanks. Bling1907 - 04 January 2011 8 pm. (UTC)

If you can't do it for the next 3+ weeks, then we're not going to reserve it for you. Reservations are for when someone is currently working on the video, so that we don't end up with two people doing the same one at the same time Natemckn 18:07, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm preparing the files and others tomorrow and start recording at 14th. Bling1907 - 05 January 2011 1 pm. (UTC)
A little side note: How i can spawn a bot with Equalizer? -Bling1907
You can't :( TF2's bots are quite limited, and it is a shame. Use a human player if you need. But why would you need such a bot for the Equalizer demo? — Wind 12:28, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
You know, to show that you can't healed while holding Equalizer. Many people doesn't know this. Can you belive it? Bling1907
Oh yeah, that's a good point. Get a friend (that should rename himself to "Friendly Soldier" to stand around on the map, I guess. — Wind 16:02, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
But I open the map from console. Can he join my game? Also I have a problem with adding bots. I got the cfg files and type exec weaponref but it doesn't add bots. (I'm bad at controlling game from console) Bling1907 06 January 2011 12 am. (UTC)
Type sv_lan 0, reload the map, and your TF2 client is now a server that your friend can connect to (if you've forwarded the ports correctly). I don't know why the weaponreg file wouldn't work though (did you save it as atxt file? Did you save it as a .cfg file but extensions are hidden so in reality it's a .cfg.txt file?) — Wind 21:13, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Well I'm still trying to add the bots. Thanks for the sv_lan 0 tip. Also bad news for me: 14th changed to 17th. Is it ok? Bling1907 - 7 January 2011 2 pm (UTC)
Uh.. I was saying 'bad news' and appearantly my PC got crashed (I'm writing these from my friends') and I need to re-install everything. Can it 'wait' or..? - Bling

Overall improvement of the quality of the videos

I've pointed out in the last officially released video, the Chargin' Targe's, that the way the weapon was showcased was much better than the previously shown ones.

First of all it clearly shows what the weapon can do, both actively (damage with or without extra heads) and passively (the fire and explosive resistance), by comparing two different situations (as with the Friendly demoman being annihilated while the Targe-wearing one could survive multiple hits), something that in some videos (ex. Pain Train demonstration) wasn't done. Secondly, it shows how the weapon functions in combination with other ones, such as the grenade launcher. Now, while I do understand that videos showing EVERY possible combination would take forever to make, but think about certain combos: for example, what about the Steak + the GRUs, to show that the speed boost doesn't stack? Or what about the Wrangled sentry and minisentry differences? I am not saying you should make every combo, just the most significant ones.

I'd be glad if someone could remake or at least make an addendum to certain old videos, and I'm looking forward to see more videos like Chargin' Targe's.Meower 19:48, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

After discussing this with Wind, we have decided that this new method of demonstrating resistances/vulnerabilities is much better and will be the standard moving forward. I am going to add a bullet point to the project page describing this, and I'm marking the Pain Train, Southern Hospitality, and Fists of Steel to be redone because of this.
As for using combos in videos, I think they should only be included in rare situations. The targe is the obvious one because you cant use the targe alone, so we had to demonstrate how you can use it with a melee weapon and with the primary weapon. Also the eyelander directly affects the targe's stats, so that had do be demonstrated also. Other situations I can think of would be the bushwacka + jarate, because jarate is needed to use the bushwacka's abilities, the frontier justice + sentries, crit-a-cola + another weapon, etc. Natemckn 22:13, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
I'd like to point out that Wrangled sentries and minisentries have a completely different rate of fire, or that the GRU+Steak won't stack their effects, or that the Skullcutter will still slow you down, even while you're charging.Meower 22:13, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Getting a Weapon I don't own

How could I give myself a Weapon that I don't own for demonstrating it? --Adam.GameDev 20:58, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

No need to be condescending about it, Shock394.
Adam.GameDev: You need to modify items_game.txt. There are lots of guides about this on Google and apparently even a program to do it for youWind 21:13, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Homewrecker and Bushwacka

So I made 2 new demonstrations, and once again, please correct and help improve my mistakes. Homewrecker Bushwacka 20xx0 01:30, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Homewrecker:
  • Homewrecker not held right after backpack view (switch before opening the backpack)
  • Audio is not balanced (cannot hear the sound of the game)
  • Music is not long enough and loops (pick a longer one)
  • Missed a hit at the teleporter Sapper, making it look like it takes two shots to destroy it
  • Transition too quick after unsapping; wait a second before destroying the Sapper, and wait a second after the Sapper is destroyed
  • Framerate a bit low...
Bushwacka:
  • Bushwacka not held right after backpack view (switch before opening the backpack)
  • Same audio issue
  • Chat text visible at 0:30
  • Framerate a bit low still...
That's it :3 — Wind 03:00, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
One more thing I noticed about the homewrecker, theres a blue engie corpse hanging around on the left at the beginning --Nate (T | C) 03:02, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Bushwacka remade. 20xx0 15:58, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Nice idea to use the afterburn to better show damage vulnerability. However:
  • Music is looping; please pick a longer one that doesn't loop
  • Lift your head a little to better show damage numbers on the Soldier

Wind 21:13, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Again, The Bushwacka. I picked the longest track, still the final seconds are soundless, so i'm out of ideas. Somehow edit the audio or something? 20xx0 00:44, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Tribalman Shiv, Redone Sticky Bomb Launcher, Loch-N-Load Demonstrations

Blip.tv' still won't cooperate with me (and no, I can't set them as unlisted on Youtube thanks to Egoraptor strike) so here are the files for download... again. http://www.mediafire.com/?xzz3649485famzq Akuago220, The Jungle Expeditioner 02:56, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

You could simply create a new YouTube account. Anyway, nate will probably review those~ — Wind 03:00, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

They all look good, save one thing: The (ugly, if I may) non-default cursor in backpack view... Other than that: Show a fully charged sticky shot, show sticky jumping, show self-damage for the SL; move a bit away from the barrier in the LnL one when taunting, so that the Demoman's whole model is visible — Wind 03:34, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Added Golden Wrench

--Jessecar96 04:38, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

I added a Golden Wrench demo. No, I don't have it, I modified items_game

Here's the video

I might redo it because I forgot i had net_graph on.

I'll be making a bunch more soon. Any other suggestions?

There's lots of problems with this, but the one that everyone else without a real Golden Wrench has had is that the backpack preview model is a regular wrench. Try it out~ — Wind 04:56, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Tribalman's Shiv, Flamethrower and Huntsman

Here's the Tribalman's Shiv demonstration. I filmed it without knowing it was already done by The Jungle Expeditioner, and it's my own fault for not reserving it in the first place, but I decided to upload it anyway. The differences are that the Shiv is not vintage (although I have one) and the death by bleeding out is shown more clearly. Again, I apologize to the original maker of the demonstration that I did mine without knowing it was already done. To prevent this from happening again, I'd like to reserve the Huntsman and the Flamethrower. I will inlcude advanced tactics like igniting the sniper's arrow (in both vids from different perspectives), pinning enemies to walls with the Huntsman; reflecting various projectiles (namely stickies and grenades, to show that the former can be blown away after being planted and the latter no longer damage you or your team), igniting invisible and disgused spies, extinguishing teammates. I also plan to demonstrate the flamethrower damage falloff in respect to the distance - on the Pyro, so the afterburn damage won't get in the way. - Zhnigo 19:17, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Your demonstration looks better than Akuago220's IMO, so yours should be uploaded if there is a choice to make. Right now though, both demonstrations aren't satisfactory yet~ (In your case, there's a slight delay at the end staring at the grate, and you should lift your head a little to better show damage values).
If you can pull off all of that for the Flamethrower and Huntsman demos, that would be pretty epic. Please reserve them~ (Page isn't locked) — Wind 21:13, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
The second version of the Shiv. - Zhnigo 04:59, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Looks good, please upload the original~ — Wind 05:34, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

The flamethrower was done already, what's wrong with it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcmD2vW79-E -- User Swordz Swordz.pngSwordzUser Swordz Swordz.png (talk | contribs) 16:17, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Shiv video uploaded --Nate (T | C) 16:19, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Should I change something else in the Huntsman video while adding the music to it? Is the flamethrower video ok? - Zhnigo 06:03, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Since there's no feedback I'll just upload the huntsman with music. This video differs from the one that is already up at the huntsman page in that it shows differences in headshot damage corresponding to arrow drawing time, the ability to draw in midair, walk with the arrow drawn, have the arrow lit by a pyro and also pin the ragdoll to a wall. :) The differences in the flamethrower video are: damage falloff demonstration with distance, igniting cloaked and disguised spies, blowing stickies away and again igniting a friendly sniper's arrow. Please respond, I'm waiting for a couple of days now. - Zhnigo 04:24, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Shots are good; however, please place the heavy somewhere distinct (not exactly behind the Pyro); for example, in front of the yellow barrels next to the Soldier. For the final "target" shot, you showed the "shakey" trajectory but not the usual one; you need to show the usual non-charged one (big arc) and the fully charged one (small arc) as well. Additionally, the "shakey" trajectory's offset from the usual one is random, so try to get a shot for which the trajectory differs a lot. There are some white splotches of color in one frame during the middle of the transition after the tauntkill, and an audio/video "freeze" when the demoman gets arrowed by 0:56. Let the afterburn finish. And then pin him mercilessly like you did~ Thanks, that's a big demonstration — Wind 04:56, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer. :) The huntsman demo, corrected. What about the flamethrower? - Zhnigo 07:33, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Not sure about placing the Heavy instead of the Medic... Could you keep the regular placement, just add the heavy somewhere else? If you feel like redoing it, that is. Flamethrower one is really cool. Can't listen to its audio right now, but the video looks perfect. Please upload the original if the audio is correct — Wind 14:44, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Nnnghhhhnot sure if I feel like redoing it. :) If it is that important, hovewer, I will. Is it?
As of now, here are the huntsman and flamethrower ready for download. - Zhnigo 16:55, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
So should I redo it with the heavy near the soldier or not? - Zhnigo 16:00, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
IMHO its fine. I'll upload them when I get home from work. --Nate (T | C) 16:05, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Flamethrower done. Good work. --Nate (T | C) 19:14, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Candy Cane Demo.

[1] 30 seconds, only killing with the cane. [2] 30 sec using different weapons also.

I know Ill have to record these again later so just tell me what to do differently. Please and thank you. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Elgin U1613 (talk) • (contribs)

Alright:
  • Has "www.fraps.com" on top
  • Has no music
  • Backpack view is wrong (no model rotation, no weapon selection thingy)
  • Doesn't use modified HudDamageAccount.res
  • Doesn't show taunt (completely)
  • Doesn't show increased explosive damage vulnerability
I suggest you look at the current Candy Cane demo, as there is nothing wrong with it (shows damage vulnerability and everything) except the weapon model — Wind 05:33, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Wind 05:33, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

The "www.fraps.com" thing shows that he's using the free version, buy it or change the recorder. Shock394 04:26, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Original Poster EDIT...

  • Major Problem: Using free version
  • Reason: I'm Cheap
  • Solutions: Stop being cheap OR Leave it to the pros.

Sorry but I just don't have the money for it at the moment.. Maybe when I get out of school and get a job. T _T --Elgin F. 20:58, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Sydney Sleeper (redone)

Remade the Sydney Sleeper, now with the new kill icon. And looking at the list of weapons that need to be redone, I was wondering if anyone can redo the videos, or the ones who made the videos originally. And once I'm making a new section, I'll just repost my latest link to the Bushwacka video, which hasn't seem to have gotten any response. 20xx0 18:13, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

The ones that need to be redone can be done by anyone, just make sure you mimic the video as close as possible while fixing the things listed.
Your Sydney Sleeper video looks good. I am watching without sound right now, so assuming you fixed the unbalanced audio issue you had earlier, you can go ahead and upload that and I will add it to the channel.
The Bushwacka one also looks good, but it needs the new kill icon. You showed the fire vulnerability very well. Again, I can't comment on the sound or music. --Nate (T | C) 18:25, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Here's the download link for the Sydney Sleeper. I'll post the Bushwacka video as soon as I'm back. 20xx0 19:24, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Sydney Sleeper video is uploaded --Nate (T | C) 19:34, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Wait wait wait, the Sydney Sleeper video has the wrong taunt at the end. Toomai Glittershine 19:44, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
D: You're right! --Nate (T | C) 19:45, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
For the Bushwacka, stick the music so that the end of the music is at the end of the video. It's better to leave music out of the backpack view rather than out of the rest of the video. I've done that for the Wrangler demonstration~ — Wind 19:36, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
I just noticed that in the Bushwacka video, during the first kill there's a blue sniper corpse in the background, but it disappears by the second kill, so do I have to redo it, or it isn't that big of a problem?Take a look for yourselves. And here's the Sydney Sleeper (this time I got the taunt right!) Also I had free time so I remade the Frying Pan, but I once again fear that the audio is not balanced, but I'll redo it as soon as you take a look at it and point out any other mistakes.20xx0 21:05, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it is a problem, also given the copious amount of blood already on the barrels and on the floor in that video. Ideally, the stage should be all clean in demonstrations. One or two blood splatters is fine, as it's not quite easy and it's a hassle to reload the map every time. But a non-natural corpse and yellow barrels turned red is a bit too much, sorry :( Could you upload the original for the Sydney Sleeper? And the audio is indeed not balanced, as there is a bit of fuzz/cracking in the frying pan "BONG" sounds — Wind 00:19, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough, here's the download link. Expect the Bushwacka and Frying Pan in the near future (again). And since I am new to this whole Wiki thing, I keep having questions. Right now I'd like to know if I have the permission to reserve a weapon for demonstration, or do I have to report it here and someone will reserve it for me? 20xx0 00:58, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Just edit the page and add yourself — Wind 02:43, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Soo, did my Sydney Sleeper get uploaded yet? No rush, I'll wait. In the meantime, here's the Frying Pan, now with balanced audio! 20xx0 11:45, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
And once again, The Bushwacka, and a redone Black Box. 20xx0 18:28, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Sydney Sleeper v3 uploaded --Nate (T | C) 22:07, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Bushwacka: Okay save for the fact that the bot is named "Friendly_Sniper" (should be a space, not an underscore). Frying Pan looks ok, please upload original~ Black Box doesn't show splash damage well enough (only shows it on the Medic by the end but it's hard to see), forgot to reload at the end, and there's a long black screen at the end of the video — Wind 22:09, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Frying pan download, Bushwacka v8 or something and if I manage to make new videos, shall I put them in this section or make a new one ? 20xx0 15:42, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm uploading the Frying Pan video right now. As for new videos, I would say new sections, just so that it is easier to follow the discussion/feedback on each one. Since you are getting quite good at this, for future videos feel free to post the youtube link and the download link together, so I can upload them faster (assuming this isn't terribly inconvenient for you). --Nate (T | C) 15:58, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
I still don't have the opinion on the Bushwacka and the recently uploaded Frying Pan cuts off the last 8 seconds or so. 20xx0 17:29, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm at work so I can't give a good review of your Bushwacka video right now. As for the Frying Pan, I unlisted it and will try reuploading it when I get home and have better internet. I'm assuming its not a problem with the file, its probably a bad download (my work has really poor internet connection) --Nate (T | C) 17:38, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
OK, reuploaded and not cut off. I guess I learned my lesson about trying to upload videos while at work--Nate (T | C) 21:21, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
But what about the Bushwacka video? It seems to be forgotten. 20xx0 18:06, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
It looks good, but Wind mentioned in your other section that there is an audio glitch when hitting the pyro. Can you fix that please? --Nate (T | C) 18:43, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Bushwacka, I think I've made almost 10 of these, but the last ones have been all the same video file, I just custom added the hit sounds, they still don't sound right, but I'm hoping for the best. If this also doesn't get accepted, I should probably redo it for 1 more time. 20xx0 20:14, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Still the same audio bug the first time you hit the Pyro (0:05), the sound "skips". It's the only thing wrong with it D: — Wind 21:39, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Xfire?

Just reading the guidelines for creating these videos again, and I noticed you mention FRAPS and WeGame, but not Xfire? Shouldn't it maybe be added so that people don't have to feel compelled to use one of the two that are already there? And maybe also clarify that it needs to be a licensed full version of FRAPS, not the free trial. TheChrisD RantsEdits 21:47, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Golden Wrench

My second attempt at a demonstration video. I feel that this one is much better than my first, but I guess that's up for you to judge.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k70NqsG3imA

It has the option for 720p HD and Closed Captioning. Thoughts? I-ghost 22:04, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

That's a lot better yes, but the same flaw as other golden wrenches is still there: In the backpack view avatar thing in the center, he is holding a Wrench, not a Golden Wrench. I'm starting to think it does that for real GWs too, but I'm not sure — Wind 00:27, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Gloves of Running Urgently : Video, download.
Black Box : Video, download.
20xx0 17:27, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Might wanna double check that GRU youtube link. As for the black box, it looks good to me (though I have no sound right now) --Nate (T | C) 21:29, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
That's a Bushwacka demo... Which has an audio glitch (the first time the Pyro is hit, the pyro's sound skips a bit). As for the Black Box one, you forgot to shoot the target at the back — Wind 23:42, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Awww sorry, that's what i get for working with multiple videos at the same time. GRU link updated.20xx0 15:42, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
But is it necessary to shoot the target at the back? I know it's in the guidelines to shoot, but I've seen some other videos that don't do that either. But if it's important, I'll add it to the video. 20xx0 19:16, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it is important (except for melee weapons, obviously). If you've seen a video that doesn't do it, please say which! They need to be fixed too. Also, for the GRU, it would be nice if, after killing everyone, you switched to the Minigun and walked around the room, then switched to the GRU and do the same path (but faster because of the GRU). That would show the speed difference well. I know the current GRU demonstration doesn't show that, and that's a problem). Or even better, if your video program allows it: Start on one corner of the map and walk to a specific point of the map, one time with the Fists and another time with the GRU, then put those two side-by-side. — Wind 20:57, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Or have a bot heavy with the minigun mimic you and race to show the speed difference --Nate (T | C) 20:59, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Remade GRU, I know, I could've made the comparison a lot better, but I hope this will do also. 20xx0 19:31, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Remade Black Box and since I have the time, I (again) remade the GRU, showing the speed difference in a different way. Just watch this one and the one before and say which one is better. 20xx0 10:51, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

The Backburner (Reupload)

So i made my first weapon demonstration video. Please help me correct my mistakes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGz2zJqjDok {{subst:void|This template should always be substituted. Please change {{Unsigned}} to {{subst:Unsigned}}}}The preceding unsigned comment was added by Glowz (talk) • (contribs) 2024-11-27, 19:05 UTC

Thanks for the effort but there definitely some issues that need addressing:
  • 1) The size of video. Videos must be at least 1280x720 and 16:9 ratio, which will eliminate the black bars on the sides and top that yours currently has.
  • 2) The pyro's pose in the first part. There isn't really a standard for this, as long as you can see the pyro and the weapon being demonstrated. In yours, the backburner is coming straight at the camera which obscures the view. Click and drag to rotate it a bit.
  • 3) As for the demonstration itself, this one can definitly be done in one take:
* Burn the pyro, then burn the pyro a bit from behind.
* Burn the soldier and show the afterburn damage/duration. Then kill the soldier from the back.
* Kill the medic from the front.
  • 4) The spy shouldn't be visable at any point (you can remove him completely if you are having trouble with this).

If you can fix all those things, you will be much closer (if not perfect). Good luck --Nate (T | C) 20:09, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

More things:

  • The framerate is quite low (video is not smooth).
  • The audio is unbalanced. The in-game audio sounds fuzzy (it sounds like it was clipped, then the volume was reduced on the clipped version) {{subst:void|This template should always be substituted. Please change {{Unsigned}} to {{subst:Unsigned}}}}The preceding unsigned comment was added by WindPower (talk) • (contribs) 2024-11-27, 19:05 UTC

Okay here is the redone video. Link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTx9AY1ISSI. Glowz 19:39, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Still some things~
  • Framerate is still kind of low
  • Corpses fall in slow motion... What?
  • Considering the recently-redone video demonstration of the Flamethrower, the Backburner demonstration should also show some of these features (damage depends on flame distance, you can light up huntsman arrows, etc)

Invisibility Watch

Here's another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F92QJ1d6KE4

I tried to demonstrate comprehensively how invisibility works in-game. Thoughts?I-ghost 22:33, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Video's too long, passed one minute, the video is 2:26. Shock394 23:42, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
The official upload of the Shotgun is 2:40 and the Chargin' Targe surpasses the one minute mark, and there was a lot of ground to cover with this video.I-ghost 23:58, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Going over a minute is ok when necessary. It's more of a guideline. Your video did include a ton of content and I'm gonna watch it a few more times and try to see what bits you could cut out or shorten. I really like it, but it is quite long in comparison to the rest of them. --Nate (T | C) 00:01, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Very good effort, showing almost everything that's important to know. But there are problems:

  • Don't taunt at the end; there's no taunt associated with the watch so don't do any of them.
  • Good show with disguising while invisible, but may want to show that the smoke clouds don't go away if you disguise before you're completely invisible. Maybe.
  • Custom teleporter particles should go away; that part can also be cut a bit.
  • You showed flickering on bump, but not flickering on damage. Shoot the RED Spy when he's insivible and/or let him shoot you. Also shows that invisible Spies don't say "ow".

Yeah, it's pretty long, but for things like this there's nothing you can do about it. Toomai Glittershine 00:25, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

First, let me say that this looks really awesome and the effort that was put in it shows (even doing a custom loop for the music). However, there are indeed problems with it, other than what others have said:

  • Length: While the 1-minute mark is not strictly enforced, 2 minutes and a half is a bit too much for a single weapon (Shotgun one demonstrate the same thing for 4 classes so it's obviously 4 times as long as it should be). To shorten it, you could cut some things. For example, no need to show the cloak recovery from all 3 types of ammo boxes (one is enough; probably best to choose the middle one). You could also spend less time demonstrating the Sentry detection thing, and merge it with the get-cloak-from-dispenser thing: cloak, go in front of the sentry, hang around for a second, disguise, show cloak recovery from dispenser, undisguise while cloaked, uncloak, take a bit of damage, recloak, exit.
  • PLDX particles: I know they look great, but all videos should use unmodified versions of everything (except the HudDamageAccount.res file).
  • Consistency: Specifically, consistency between all the Spy watches videos here. Since this is such a content-heavy video, all Spy watches video should be of the same format ideally. Thus, would you mind doing the other Spy watches' demonstrations? (Not now, of course, but later) Specifically, the Enthusiast's Timepiece should be identical.
  • Running out of cloak: This is not demonstrated in the video, but it needs to be, because all other watches behave differently (Cloak and Dagger doesn't force-uncloak, and Dead Ringer makes a special sound). Thus, for consistency, all Spy watches videos should demonstrate their running-out-of-cloak behavior. — Wind 01:17, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for doing this, and keep up the good work. — Wind 01:17, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks very much for the feedback guys, I'm in the process of making the new version. I just have a small question; I've noticed that the Jarate and Flamethrower videos do not demonstrate the ability to reveal cloaked spies and that Mad Milk does not even have a video. Do you want me to make an addendum of sorts to this video demonstrating the revealing abilities of both fluids and Flamethrower, or should that be restricted to the respective weapons?i-ghost 12:40, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
I feel that should be parts of the jarate, mad milk, flamethrower, etc, videos. The jarate one is currently marked to be redone because it didn't include a cloaked spy, and I saw someone was working on was waiting for me to upload a flamethower video that included a cloaked spy. And its one less thing you need to include in this (already long) video. --Nate (T | C) 13:04, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
"Someone working on a flamethrower video"? The video is long since ready and waiting for someone to upload it. :) - Zhnigo 16:11, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry about that, fixed. Yours will be uploaded in a few hours when I get home from work --Nate (T | C) 16:15, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Sandman and Minigun

Made 2 new demonstrations. Once again please help me correct my mistakes. Minigun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=570k8f6_p0Y Sandman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Cwh7zrh8rQ Glowz 20:34, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Sandman: Use the spy to tauntkill, not the Medic. I checked other videos and it shows a response.
Minigun: Shoot at the target.
Those are the only ones I can find. Shock394 23:02, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Alright:
  • Both videos: Framerate is low and the audio is unbalanced (in-game audio is not loud enough compared to the music, and feels like it was clipped as it has a fuzz to it)
  • Both videos: Music end (abruptly) 1 second before the video does. Either add a fade until the end of the video, or let the music keep going until the end of the video
  • Minigun: Move closer to the wooden barrier. This is because the Minigun's muzzleflash has a bug which makes the muzzleflash look weird with the wooden barrier's top part. If you move closer to the barrier, this bug will be hidden.
  • Minigun still: Show complete spin-up/spin-down animations (giving time for the barrel to completely stop spinning)
  • Minigun: Show movement speed difference when revved up
  • What Shock394 said (by "shoot at the target" he means "Shoot at the cardboard target at the back")

Wind 21:39, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

As for the Sandman, as mentioned somewhere else (possibly in the actual WDP article, don't feel like finding it again) it might be a good idea to do the tauntkill in a way that it shows how far the body files. —烏Γ (kaw at me), 05:31, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Wrench

My first attempt. Tired my hardest to fallow the standards. I also demonstrated that the wrench speeds up buildings by hitting them, which I think should be part of it. If you don't like it I can remove it.

If you like it I"ll put a download link

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pz5LVUSEGE4 KingofKoopas 06:09, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

I think it should also show upgrading and repairing a building. 20xx0 06:34, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Good idea. however I can record till Friday, so till then I'll reserve this weapon. In the mean time please tell me how I can improve the video. If there aren't any problems quality wise I'll record a bunch of these on Friday.KingofKoopas 06:47, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm not an admin, but if I may speak, it'll look better and more obvious if instead of picture-in-picture you'll make a vertical split-screen. :) Secondly, the admins have scolded me for not keeping the character's head high enough so that damage numbers can be seen more clearly. And lastly, are you sure it's native 16:9? The video looks stretched horizontally. :)
P.S. Damn, I just wanted to reserve the wrench to myself. Well, I'll stick with the Jag. - Zhnigo 17:08, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

1: Yes split screen would work. I'll see what I can do about that. 2: While I don't think that's a problem I can see where your coming from. I kinda want to do a re record anyway as I didn't have multicore rendering on so I got slower frames then I wanted. 3: Yes it is stretched. You see my monitor is kinda funky and it's 16:10 1689 1060. I can easily convert this to 720, but I really didn't want to as I think it looks kinda weird. However if it looks stretched I'll convert it to 720 on my second take.

Thanks for the tips. I'll keep this stuff in mind, and I think I'll also be doing a bunch of these on Friday.

Also is filesize of any important? The one for my first take was 181 MB. KingofKoopas 17:58, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

You can get a 16:9 720p output on any monitor, be it 16:10 or 4:3, if you launch TF2 in a window. The launch options to use are "-windowed -w 1280 -h 720" and optionally "-noborder". Concerning the filesize, you'll get an adequate size if you use the x264 codec. As stated on the project page, "It is recommended to use x264vfw, single-pass, quantizer-based, with q smaller than or equal to 20". :) - Zhnigo 18:57, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Actually, I've seen several people already who were complaining that their monitors don't support 720p, so maybe a note about windowed mode is worth being posted at the project page? - Zhnigo 19:18, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, however I can't find the codec for use in Sony Vegas, Help? KingofKoopas 19:18, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

You can export the video from Vegas in uncompressed, or better yet, lossless format (I'm using the lagarith codec), and then recompress it with some simple converter like VirtualDub. :) - Zhnigo 19:20, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Alright I'll give that a shot. I find it weird in Sony vegas the dimensions are way bigger then 720, yet they still need to be stretched. But I'll play along. Edit: How do i export it as uncompressed or with that codec. (I have it installed)KingofKoopas 19:27, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Your monitor should support 1980x945, which one might call "midway between 720p and 1080p", so use that if you can. Or the whole 1920x1080 if that works somehow. Bigger resolution is better, as long as the framerate doesn't suffer (which doesn't seem to be a problem in your video). If you've installed x264vfw, it should show up in Vegas's codecs list (it's what I use). You shouldn't worry about file size, as YouTube supports up to 2 GB for videos; so yes, you can go for H264-lossless if you want. My (lossless 1080p) demonstrations weigh about 200 MB if you need an idea, but it doesn't matter since our dear natemckn has unlimited bandwidth to upload them. As for the video contents, you should either split-screen completely (rather than using a small non-aligned corner), or not using splitscreen at all have a bot building it a building in the background while only one of you uses the Wrench. I also recommend using a Dispenser instead of a Sentry Gun, because it takes longer to build than a Sentry Gun (so the difference is more visible) and it is clear when its construction is finished (the screen lights up, whereas the teleporter does nothing) — Wind 21:39, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Alright if that's the case I'll just use my monitors normal native resolution and then render it in 720. I'll see how that works and I'll just continue to render videos the way I normally do. Should be smaller by rendering in 720 anyhow. I'll be sure to get my video up on youtube by tomorrow sometime. KingofKoopas 22:17, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Earlier then I thought but v2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDiaqODKHRc

Splitscreen isn't perfect but it's my first go at it and it serves it purpose. Also demonstrated upgrading, repairing and that it can destroy sappers. Hope this is a little better. This took me a while to make and drove me to insanity trying to get the splitscreen to work. KingofKoopas 01:26, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

This still looks stretched; did you really record in a 16:9 resolution? If you recorded at your monitor's native resolution and your monitor's resolution isn't 16:9, then no.
Math time~ Your monitor's native resolution is "1689x1060" (hint: it's probably not that; I have yet to see odd-number resolutions). Take the largest "conventional" video width that is smaller than or equal to your monitor's width ("conventional" video widths are 1920, 1680, 1280), multiply it by 9, then divide it by 16. The number you get is the height that your video should be. Do NOT resize the video; record it at the correct resolution straight away; so set your game's resolution to that, then record. If you run your game full-screen and use a ratio that does not correspond to your monitor's ratio, then the picture on your monitor will obviously look horribly deformed; however, the resulting video, assuming your recording program records pixels as 1:1 squares, will look fine.
Other than that, the demo is better, but still some things to fix:
  • Splitscreen isn't synchronized (you probably guessed that one already). Synchronize the two sequences using the first frame where you see the Dispenser model as keyframe.
  • It is probably a better idea to show upgrading on a Sentry, because the visual difference between building levels is a lot clearer
  • Wait a bit after upgrading to level 2 (before upgrading to level 3)
  • Wait a bit after destroying the Sapper (before repairing the damage caused by the Sapper)

Wind 02:17, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Alright I'll used the windowed settings before. Just did a test and ti works without stretching. I doubt I'll be able to 100% synchronized but I'll get it as close as I can. Thanks for all the tips, I'll get started on another take tomorow :)KingofKoopas 02:28, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Take 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=286MeMjGpeI If this is good for upload I'll post a link. The file is about 188 mb. Hope that isn't to big. KingofKoopas 06:32, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Jag

Actually I wanted to make a video for the regular wrench, but KingofKoopas is already working on it, so i'll switch to the Jag. The Jag was reserved almost a month ago, and it's stil not done, so I figure it's okay if I do it. The plan is: first a regular melee demo, then a splitscreen comparison between the jag and the normal wrench. Should I also include the comparison of upgrading a building to show no difference in upgrading speed? - Zhnigo 17:25, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Not trying to put you down, but remember that the Jag only uses like 12/30 percent of it's bonus. It's only a matter of time before it gets patched and you'll have to do another take. Just my two cents. KingofKoopas 17:59, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. Anyway, I've already started and it'll be easy to rerecord one part of the video later when this will be patched, like with the Amputator, so I'll continue. :) - Zhnigo 19:00, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

The jag demo, version 1. - Zhnigo 21:19, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

I like it. how big was the file? Want to get a general idea of how big the files can be. KingofKoopas 21:31, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Pretty cool; video glitches at the top of the screen when you give the killing blow to the Medic (some weird lines show up during one frame); very minor audio glitch during the transition in the middle. Other than that, it does what it should do, so it's good~ — Wind 21:39, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Both glitches corrected, download link. This particular video ended up being 39 Mb compressed or 833 Mb uncompressed. :) - Zhnigo 04:46, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Vita Saw, Loch-n-Load, Homewrecker, Fontier Justice

I'd like to reserve these weapons if possible. Thanks. KingofKoopas 18:04, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Reserve them yourself, page isn't locked~ — Wind 21:39, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Isn't four at a time a bit too much? I wanted to do the Homewrecker myself, so could you please work on the other three before taking the homewrecker on, if you have a choice? :) Thanks. - Zhnigo 22:19, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Sure not a problem. These aren't hard to make so I wanted to do these on Friday. But sure go ahead and do the homewrecker. :) KingofKoopas 01:06, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Wrangler

Nothing directly wrong with it as it is, but I'd suggest adding a comparison of how long it would take the Soldier to kill an unshielded Sentry at the same range (though it'd be an issue with the sentry auto-targeting him), and showing that you can rocket yourself as well as shooting yourself - maybe even adding in a sentry jump. —烏Γ (kaw at me), 05:39, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, thought about that, but it was getting long for a video demonstration and I thought that seeing a whole 8 rockets needed to destroy the Sentry would be enough of a difference to not have to show the "normal" case. This being said, I'm not against replacing it with a more comprehensive demo~ — Wind 05:41, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
