I am having a heart attack!
The Soldier taking the weapon's name too literally

The Panic Attack is a community-created primary weapon for the Engineer, and a secondary weapon for the Soldier, Pyro, and Heavy. It is a pump-action shotgun with a drum magazine attached to the front and an external firing hammer.

The Panic Attack starts with 0 rounds in its magazine. Upon pressing and holding down primary fire, the player will begin loading shells into the magazine port, and will continue to do so as long as primary fire is held down. Upon releasing, the player will fire all shots one-by-one. Up to four shells can be loaded and fired in this fashion. Once loaded, the player can hold the shells in the weapons for as long as they please, however, releasing the Primary Fire key will release all the bullets in an unstoppable succession. The player cannot switch weapons while the clip is loaded. The clip will be depleted if the player touches a Resupply Locker.

Compared to the default Shotgun, the Panic Attack fires 30% faster, reloads 50% faster and deploys 50% faster. In addition, as the user's health decreases, the weapon's firing rate and spread both increase, firing faster shots at lower accuracy when at low health.

The Panic Attack was contributed to the Steam Workshop under the name "War Drum".

A weapon spread of 30 means that for every 30 Hammer Units away
from the target, the pellets spread out by 1 Hammer Unit on the target.

Bugs

  • Due to this weapon being a primary weapon for the Engineer, it can be crafted using a Pyro class token and a Primary slot token in place of Secondary slot.
  • The quality of the backpack icon is affected depending on the Texture Quality of the game, which isn't a normal behavior, as other backpack icons for other items aren't affected depending on the Texture Quality that the player set.
  • If the player dies while reloading the weapon, the reloading sound effect will continuously play until they respawn.
  • If the weapon is viewed from the Pyro's loadout, it shows a bullet hovering underneath the gun.
  • Due to server lag, the player's premature death will often cancel out the remaining hits from the weapon.

Trivia

  • This weapon gets its name from a panic attack, which is a sudden feeling of intense fear and anxiety.
  • The style of the Panic Attack is reminiscent of a standard 12 gauge pump Shotgun with a drum magazine in front of the pump, instead of behind it.
  • The Panic Attack and its attributes are based heavily upon the Winchester Model 1897, as the heat shield and bayonet mount is very similar to the M97's. In addition, the Panic Attack's automatic firing after releasing primary fire references the technique of holding the M97's trigger down while pumping shells, as the M97 would fire each time the action closed.
