Battery Canteens
I want to do this, but I think I'll screw up. Should I download the split-screen version of the recorder? Edit: Okay, I've watched the normal Power Canteen video, and I have a few questions. 1. On the Engineer critical canteen part, how would I be able to spawn a robot that doesn't shoot instantly? 2. On the Engineer über canteen part, how would I be able to place a robot that I can control with shooting? 3. On the Engineer Buildings Upgrade canteen part, how would I be able to start the wave and not have any robots come out? 4. On the Engineer Refill Ammo canteen part, on the level 3 Sentry, would I be able to use a Wrangler, shoot all its ammo, then return with a default loadout and show it? 5. On the Medic canteen part, how do I spawn a bot that I can control and name Friendly Scout? 6. On the Medic Refill Ammo part, how would I be able to get the first person view of the bot? 7. In the video, how would I be able to take away the chat box so it doesn't say "[player] used [canteen]!"? Thanks ahead of time. Punishment Fatal (talk) 20:29, 13 June 2013 (PDT)
- For the bot stuff, you should look at this. For the chat stuff, you should use the setting

. Darkid (|) 20:36, 13 June 2013 (PDT)- Thanks for that. I have another question though. When I try to download WeGame, it comes up with an error saying that my browser (Google Chrome) can't find that page. What should I do? Edit: Okay, I found out that WeGame was sold to Tagged and is no longer working. Is there any other sources besides Fraps that could work? I don't want to pay for it, and also I don't think Source Recorder can record me actually showing off the item in the loadout screen. Punishment Fatal (talk) 23:04, 13 June 2013 (PDT)
- Yes source recorder only record in-game [...]. But i'll recommended you to use "Mirillis Action!" [...] it's a recorder which is similar as fraps but trust me Mirillis Action is better. Karmacharger 4:01 , 6/14/2013 (PDT)
- Sweet, thanks for helping! (P.S. In future reference, thanks for giving me a little layout for the Battery Canteens). Punishment Fatal (talk) 02:32, 14 June 2013 (PDT)
- Edit: I don't think I can take this recording job anymore. When I try to upload a video, it says that it's in the wrong format so I can't do so. Also, whenever I record, I have a terrible framerate (around 15-20ish), and my HUD's messed up since I had a custom one before I reset it, and deleting most of the files did nothing. Punishment Fatal (talk) 11:37, 14 June 2013 (PDT)
- Youtube only support (.MOV .MPEG4 .AVI .WMV .MPEGPS .FLV .3GPP .WebM) what kind of video format do you used? .AVI and .WMV is recommended also there is another location folder for the hud Here (Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\download). in mirillis action make sure the record option is .Avi file format , 60 fps , video size original if framerate are still terrible Try using Fraps to record. Karmacharger 8:38 , 6/15/2013 (PDT)
- Punishment Fatal: Since this is your first demo (and it's a big one), you should try uploading a sample clip having the same video quality as the final demonstration, in order to check that it meets the quality requirements — Wind 13:10, 15 June 2013 (PDT)
- Alright, but I do run into 2 problems. My first problem is that I can't find the sound file for the recordings and that I can't find the training_vid mp3 sound files anywhere. Where might I be able to find them? Edit: Sorry for the inconvenience, but I can't do this one anymore. My frames are really bugging me with any recording software and only if I put it at the lowest settings do I get decent ones.

- Ok, it seems that doing demo for this weapon is harder than I thought due to the weapon plagued with bugs:
- 1. If I do a headshot before and then do a scoped bodyshot, the head counter will still increase instead of decrease. This applies for all scoped bodyshot afterward, even if you missed scope shots plenty of time.
- 2. The weapon actually charges as fast as Sniper Rifle even at 0 head. The -20% base charge rate penalty does not apply at all.
- Seems the problem for 1. is because random critical hit was disabled. If I enable it again, the weapon will function as intended (head will decrease for scoped bodyshot again).
- I guess I'll need to experiment and update the main page before proceeding with this demonstration. --ThePsycho (talk) 05:11, 26 August 2013 (PDT)

- Switch the order you shoot the dispenser and kill the heavy in the second clip (ie, do all the scoped vs. noscoped, then get the kill). Other than that, it looks fine (assuming that the charge rates are accurate, since there's almost no different at 0 heads.) — Armisael (T · C) 19:59, 27 August 2013 (PDT)

Buff Banner

- Useful if true (I didn't even know), but pretty hard to demonstrate on video. Should be redone if someone can think of a way to demonstrate this clearly — Wind 16:00, 25 April 2013 (PDT)
- Here's one possible way: Have a mini-video inset that shows someone's hand operating the mouse, and them clicking and releasing the button. It can be live-action or animated. Dogman15 00:17, 26 April 2013 (PDT)
- Let's not do a live-action one, but animated would work, as long as it doesn't include any text — Wind 19:56, 2 May 2013 (PDT)

It won't be that hard. I actually learned it from watching TF2 videos. Just hold down the mouse button, and the horn stays on your screen. An example is minute 5:25 in this video.--Uknownada 21:08, 26 April 2013 (PDT)
- I'm not sure if that's obvious enough, really. If you don't know what is going on, it feels like the buff banner is just being glitchy for a while — Wind 19:56, 2 May 2013 (PDT)
- Maybe there could be a splitscreen with text in the top of each screen (similar to this video at 0:12). One screen would show the normal activation of the Buff Banner with "clicking the mouse button" in the top, and the other would show the Soldier holding the horn and walking around with it with "holding down the mouse button" in the top. That's really the only way I can think of to clearly demonstrate it. - Uufje 07:42, 3 May 2013 (PDT)
- Let's go with that, but perhaps using icons like these except less phallic and more public domain. Could be used on both screens, staying there for both clips but with the button turning red when pressed on either screen. It's better to use icons than text when possible so that articles in other languages can use it as well — Wind 20:18, 6 May 2013 (PDT)

I really don't think it's a glitch. The Banner has always been able to do that. The Battalion's Backup and Concheror do the same thing (I didn't request those because I wanted this to be approved first). I'm sure you can be able to know what's going on.--Uknownada 23:34, 3 May 2013 (PDT)

This is my first demonstration I will ever do, now the map I have downloaded have some missing textures. Can someone tell me what I could do? -WDZOrangeJuice (talk) 22:46, 13 July 2013 (PDT)
- I've updated the main project page to have a link to the patch for the map, on the same line the map was on. My apologies - I had forgotten that it had been archived.
- Also, you seem to have the right idea, but since this is your first demonstration, I would recommend you upload a ~15 second clip of you on the map to make sure that you have the technical details right. Nothing is more annoying that having to redo every last one of your clips for something minor, like a custom crosshair. — Armisael (T · C) 07:13, 14 July 2013 (PDT)
- I looked at the previous Chargin' Targe Demonstration video, and it starts the demonstration with the player charging towards Soldier and hitting the Soldier with the Bottle after the shield bash. - Thanks for the feedback. So I should also show that you can also survive 2 direct melee hits with the Darwin right?
- I didn't have the Sniper killed in Soldier clip since I want the player see the extra amount of health lost when equipping the Darwin. But when I rethink about it, I should have just kill the Sniper outright.
- Also found out that there's a small black border on the left during the headshot clip. Weird since I didn't see that in the original video preview and only appears after I rendered it. Will fix that as well. --ThePsycho (talk) 02:54, 26 August 2013 (PDT)
- Alright, here's the new one, let me know what you think. --ThePsycho (talk) 04:21, 26 August 2013 (PDT)
- Show a bullet damage resistance that isn't a headshot first, and don't kill the shield sniper. Reduce the size of the label text so it doesn't overlap the kill feed (personally, I use TF2 secondary as my labeling font). Other than that, it looks good. — Armisael (T · C) 19:59, 27 August 2013 (PDT)
- Alright. Also the patch released today has the option to turn on 3D Player Model Class HUD (the class HUD in the bottom left will be replaced with the 3rd person model that can also show the Darwin Danger's Shield on the back). Should I have that enabled for the video as well? Example Image --ThePsycho (talk) 03:30, 28 August 2013 (PDT)
- (EDIT) On a second thought, nvm. It seems the update to the HUD messed up the splitscreen HUD as it'll just simply show the RED Scout instead. Also for some reason there's always a ball spawning at the BLU spawn location everytime I start up the map. --ThePsycho (talk) 03:36, 28 August 2013 (PDT)
- Were this any other weapon being demonstrated, I'd tell you to ignore the new HUD icon. I'll have an updated version of the splitscreen HUDs uploaded by tomorrow (or tell you if I can't fix the issue). The beachball is there for TF2's birthday - it should go away shortly, if it isn' already. — Armisael (T · C) 07:15, 28 August 2013 (PDT)

- I think you shouldn't cloak before you shoot the Soldier, I think you should have some footage of you using up the cloak time and shooting a target instead of demonstrating it for the first demonstration. I think you should also use split screens to compare the cloak duration with and without the L'etranger. -WDZOrangeJuice (talk) 23:34, 19 July 2013 (PDT)

- The L'etranger doesn't extend the damage reduced time of the Dead Ringer, just the regular cloak time. You should show that.
- Don't show bots reloading on screen if you can avoid it (the revolver clip in the DR splitscreen).
- Since you're going to be rerecording the DR splitscreen anyways, use
bot_teleport soldier 0 -950 0 0 90 0
to move the soldier so he's centered (For that splitscreen). - On the fades between clips, one side fades in before the other. You should figure out how to fix that. — Armisael (T · C) 19:56, 8 August 2013 (PDT)

- I'm currently working on this demonstration. However, I've noticed a few differences between my trials and in the video that's currently in use, namely the first part:
- The teleporter that's shot (i.e. the one with lower health) doesn't make a sound when returning to toolbox state, and, strangely, neither does the other one.
- The dispenser doesn't give a "used" red-tape upon being destroyed and returned to toolbox state.
- Is there any reason for this? There's practically no difference between my set-up and the one in the current video, apart from the fact that an engineer is standing next to the dispenser (to show that the sapper stops supplying metal/healing after being sapped) TFHK 10:30, 15 May 2013 (PDT)

Wouldn't it be better to show in a splitscreen. InstantMan (talk) 18:28, 12 July 2013 (PDT)
- I think it wouldn't work very well in a splitscreen. You have to jump at different times with and without the winger to maximize your height/distance, so a splitscreen would either be disingenuous or hard to follow. I can post a quick version if you'd like, though. — Armisael (T · C) 09:16, 13 July 2013 (PDT)
- Agree about the splitscreen. However, you didn't shoot the target, and last time you did this demo you ended it with 2 ammo, not 1. That would save you ammo, and would mean you could put the jumps in a separate clip (a visual break for the viewer?) Darkid (|) 21:35, 14 July 2013 (PDT)

- First, technical flaws (in order of appearance): you have a custom font, your mouse isn't visible in the backpack screen, and you need to download the new map patch from the main page.
- As for content, you should use the escape key to close the backpack menu, use
r_cleardecals
to clean up enormous blood stains (like in the jump clip), a scout without the winger can make the jump you show by crouch-jumping, and you should show a long distance jump as well. Also, do you have bullet spread disabled? You had fantastic accuracy in the opening clip. - I apologize if this is a little terse - I didn't want to make you hunt through a wall of text for these points. This is really good for a first demo. — Armisael (T · C) 12:33, 15 July 2013 (PDT)
- Wait, do we not disable bullet spread? I thought that we did, to help with those long-range shots. Darkid (|) 12:35, 15 July 2013 (PDT)
- Unlike damage spread and random pellet spread, bullet spread is definitely left enabled. Disabling the random spread results in wildly different results than what actually happens in game. With spread, the winger only manages to kill all the bots and hit the target before running out of bullets about 40% of the time. Without spread, it does it with a full mag left. — Armisael (T · C) 12:39, 15 July 2013 (PDT)
- Thanks, I appreciate all of your feedback and responses. It is hard to make a demonstration video. UltimentM (talk) 23:06, 15 July 2013 (PDT)
- Good luck! @Armisael, wait, what's the difference between pellet spread and bullet spread? I was just thinking of the command
tf_use_fixed_weaponspreads
. Darkid (|) 06:38, 16 July 2013 (PDT)- Using a fixed pellet spread gives you a particular pattern to the pellets as they come out - a grid, in our case. Disabling bullet spread results in all bullets going exactly down the crosshair, even on a minigun. It's not very representative of actual gameplay, unles you're hacking. — Armisael (T · C) 07:00, 16 July 2013 (PDT)

- The first clips no longer show that range has no effect on damage.
- The level 3 damage clip should show just bullets on one bot, just rockets on another, and both on the third.
- Don't change position during the damage clips.
- If you're going to taunt in the damage clips, do it after the level 3 damage clip.
- If the disarmed period is shorter when you kill the engineer, show it in a splitscreen. If not, don't show it at all.

- So do i need to do the same like the old wrangler demo?
- Alright will do that.
- had to change position at the lvl 3 sentry clip because the lvl 3 sentry is too tall it's totally blocking the pyro i can't see him.
- About the taunt it was suppose to be the first clip isn't it? if you want. i'll taunt after killed everyone with the lvl 3 sentry.
- For the disarmed period. im not sure what are you talking about , tell me what do i need to do.
- For graphical artifacting , it don't see that in the original video file. Youtube just messed it up.
- The reason i dropped the clip because the map no longer let me build the sentry in spawn zone.
But Armisael , sometime it's hard for me to understand what are you saying. can you not to use such a difficulty words and grammar to explain? Sorry. Karmacharger 2:49 AM 8/9/2013 (PDT)
- Yes
- Can you see over the level three sentry if you stand on something behind it?
- Taunt after getting the kills with the level 3 sentry
- Add the clip you dropped back in - just move the sentry forward a bit out of the spawn zone.
- When you switch away from the wrangler or die, your sentry is deactivated and shielded for some time. Is that length of time the same when you switch weapons and when you die? If it isn't, show that in a splitscreen. — Armisael (T · C) 19:56, 8 August 2013 (PDT)

- Don't teleport the bots in for the clip at 1:25 - it looks really sloppy and it doesn't give any warning. Pick the sentry up or something. — Armisael (T · C) 23:29, 15 August 2013 (PDT)
- I will also add that you should show rocket jumping with sentries normally (maybe heal with some health packs or something), using bullets to get over something, and maybe a clip with the mini-sentry. UltimentM (talk) 23:35, 15 August 2013 (PDT)
- impossible to do that http://youtu.be/UhXX2XoNstE a video would be easy to explain why. Karmacharger 6:58 PM 8/17/2013 (PDT)

- Then stand in front of the spawn zone (and move the bots back if you have to). The bullet jumping is also a good idea, for at least one of the sentry levels. — Armisael (T · C) 10:21, 19 August 2013 (PDT)

- In the first clip, the bots should be at different distances so that autotarget doesn't spin between all three at once. Also, the wrangled clip should be on the right. Don't use a clip where the unwrangled sentry shoots before it hits level 3.

Config and HUD changes
Valve has made several changes to the HUD over the last few months. To account for that, weaponref.cfg
has been changed. The main changes are alterations to how damage text shows up (shows healing, critical hits, and batches), and the inclusion of the new 3D class icons. Since some weapons are glitched in the class icons, you can use no3d
and go3d
in console to turn the 3d icons on and off, respectively. Be consistent in a particular video.
Additionally, the splitscreen HUDs have been updated to account for changes valve made while adding the 3D icons. If you're using the 2D icons in a splitscreen, be aware that the locations of the some elements have changed by a small amount - don't mix old footage and new footage. — Armisael (T · C) 12:47, 29 August 2013 (PDT)
