- KarmaCharger (used) to have a demonstration on his channel for Isolationist Pack and Isolatec Merc, I think he has done just like official demonstrations would. But it seems the video no longer exists. I heard that his channel was hacked, idk if that was the reason. He may still have the video on his PC, I guess it wouldn't hurt asking him. - ▪ - 11:59, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

Strange Filter
This demonstration has been reserved: FanCyy (talk) 20:15, 3 June 2020 (UTC) ?
I don't understand very well how this works. To quote the page "Once a Strange Filter is applied, the stats that the filter is applied to resets to 0.", what are those stats, are these the standard "Kill" (as well Uber) stats? Can you choose other stats, like stats from Strange Parts? And... "The extra prefix is only awarded if the Strange Filter is applied to the weapon's primary statistic.", more or less the same question as before, this phrase implies that you can attach these Filters on Strange Parts, is that so? - ▪ - 00:49, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, and yeah, I think we should make a video demonstrating Strange Filters. I don't know if the article will be updated to clarify my questions, but if not, the video would be a great tool to know how the tool works. - ▪ - 00:51, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Sapper in MvM
This demonstration has been reserved: Ashe (talk) 14:16, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
Friend of mine contacted me for two ideas (as listed in the title) for a demonstration. How sappers in mvm work and how mannpower powerups work. I'd be willing to do these, but they might be unnecessary

- List of things to (probably) show in the video:
- Showing the Sapper and the Red-Tape Recorder
- Using Sapper in a Heavybot
Using the Sapper in a Medium Scoutbot (Shortstop Scoutbots in Mannhattan)They are just edited normal size bots- Using Sapper in a Giant Scoutbot
Split scenes comparison to show the slowdown in the Giant ScoutbotI think it's too obvious
- Using Sapper in a Giant Heavybot to show it doesn't stop the Heavy to attack
- Show that "Refill ammo" canteen refills the Sapper too
- Buying Level 1
- Show that stuns in area.
- Buying Level 2
- Duration comparison between Level 1 and 2

- That's a very cool demonstartion video. My only input to give is at 2:01, I think it would look better if you checked your Sapper's upgrades before comparing the range between upgrades (same goes for the 2:33). But other than that, good stuff (didn't even knew that ammo canteens regenerated the Sapper). - ▪ - 04:10, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- This video is in 720p too. Assuming you can render a 1080p version that has the same quality as your previous videos had and upload that when this is approved, then it's OK, just want to double-check.
- Very nice clips with the comparison for duration and radius, but I think they would be better with a 4-way split-screen: top-left with no upgrade, and all the others with each upgrade level. That way it's easy to compare any level to any other level. This way you can also rescale every clip to half-size in both width and height (each clip fitting the quarter of the screen), so the upgrades window can be shown in full without the awkward cropping.
- Also, I know it's shown on the loadout screen, but please also have a clip with the Red-Tape recorder in use, to show that it's the same as the Sapper.

- I made the changes. RC1. The video has a rendering error in the transitions but is minor.
- Added RTR scene
- Added a screen showing that ammo canteens has been bought.
- Made the duration and radius scenes in 4-way split-screen to remove awkward cropped buy screen (with a bit of humor i guess), as you guys suggested. It demonstrates both duration and radius. However, i feel it as it's too much info.

Second version is here, download link is here. By the way. I have a few questions:
- I tried replay the demo I recorded but the taunt GUI won't disappear automatically, so I recorded a new one from the start. Is this a game bug? Do I need still need to submit this demo file?
- It seems some other taunt demonstration video is finished long time ago but haven't been uploaded to the TF Wiki channel. Why?
- I tried record the demo of second version. But the rocket shakes (graphically) every time I record the demo, which doesn't look good. That didn't happen when I'm recording the first version. So this version I didn't record the demo file. If I have to upload the demo I can only upload the first version's one. Hope that's ok :(. --Alex┋T 04:43, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

- Yes, please submit the .dem files anyway. It's OK if they don't play back exactly as-is. I've emailed you the upload password.
- Regarding the upload latency: because I've been lazy :( Ashe's been generously handling them. It's a lot of work. But then again, I recognize that so is recording and uploading the demonstrations.
- As for the video demonstration: I think the volume is fine. The second version looks good! Thanks~ — Wind 04:51, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Questions and proposals
So it appears that the weapon switch speed for every class has increased from 0.67 to 0.5 seconds. Are we going to have to redo all the demonstrations where weapon switching is present? Obilisk 23:00, 25 December 2015 (PST)
- No, that's probably too much. — Wind 14:29, 27 December 2015 (PST)
Is there any particular reason we don't allow Collector's quality items to be used in demonstrations? Hail Fellow Well Met (talk) 23:38, 11 January 2016 (PST)
- My assumption would be that Collector's quality is rather rare, and as such unrecognizable for most players, since Unique and Vintage have been around for ages all players by now should be able to recognize those. Although as far as I know we haven't talked about including Collector's quality in the suitable list for the Loadout screen, maybe now, being a year and a bit after the Collector's quality has been added, Wind may allow it. Let's see what he says. In my opinion the colour hurts my eyes haha. Obilisk 05:09, 12 January 2016 (PST)
- It's definitely not the quality most people watching the video would have the item in. And if they do, then they would already know there's no difference between Collector and non-Collector. The reverse is not as likely.
- I also don't think disallowing Collector's quality items prevents people from contributing to these videos. Surely if you manage to get a Collector's item you can also manage to get a non-Collector version of it.
- More generally, the allowed qualities the "common" ones such that they are recognizable by most people and don't put up a barrier for contribution. It also prevents the temptation people may have to show off their rare item when they have a non-rare version of it. And having a small restricted set keeps videos consistent. — Wind 18:11, 18 January 2016 (PST)
I'm thinking of doing one of the weapons here, but my graphics card is confused as to whether or not it can record video. Could I record the demos and upload the demos for recording? weatherman115 08:11, 2 February 2016 (PST)
- That's not the hard part of the work (the demo rendering/cutting/adding backpack view/music mixing/transitions/muxing/uploading to youtube/etc process is significant) and the review process would be pretty awkward if the responsibility is shared between two people, so I don't think that kind of system would work very well. — Wind 14:46, 6 February 2016 (PST)
- I knew there was going to be a problem. I'll see if I can get my card to record video, although I'm afraid that it will break the card. But frankly, it's worked before, so it shouldn't be a problem.
- ...I would put my graphic card name here, but I'm away from my computer and I can't check from anywhere other than there. I do remember that it's an AMD. weatherman115 07:36, 8 February 2016 (PST)

- Can you find the precise number? 5900 is a wide series. I'm pretty sure they're all good enough to use Source Recorder at 7250p or higher though so I don't think you should have problem rendering as long as you have the correct drivers. — Wind 15:36, 27 February 2016 (PST)
- I was actually thinking of using OBS, but that sounds good. Where can I download it?
- Also, can I have a non-7zip file of the demonstration map? I don't want to download any more software, and I'm pretty sure Windows 10 can't unzip .7z files. weatherman115 06:28, 2 March 2016 (PST)

- For the demonstration config, how do I reset my settings after recording? I'm a very competitive player, so being able to restore my settings would be great. weatherman115 14:45, 17 March 2016 (PDT)
- The Source engine configuration file language is very limited. It doesn't have any kind of state-keeping, so there is no way for a config file to be able to undo itself. The only way to have an easy "undo" is rather to have a config file that sets the options you want. Then you can alternate between the two config files in order to switch between one or the other. There's no way for the demonstration-specific config file to figure out what your previous configuration was, so it can't provide a way to undo itself either. Sorry :( — Wind 18:39, 20 March 2016 (PDT)

New Map and Musics For Demonstration
Glad you like the tr_karma map, it has everything, a swimming pool, a pit hole, trees, and birds. I assume you've played the map to see how it looks like. For new musics, i mixed the projector music with the official TF2 soundtrack, two examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYIblqJNSDM and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdC7L2o_1Y0 I think we definitely should use them too, the current ones are getting old and boring. If you like, i'll upload them here. Also for the config and bots spawning, do you still want the starting bots to be Pyro, Soldier, Medic, and Spy? in my videos, the bots are Demoman, Heavy, Sniper, and Scout. if you want the same setup for the bots, i'll change them, then upload the config file here. Oh yeah last thing, a halloween themed version for the tr_karma will be released soon, since Scream Fortress will be here soon, if there's any new weapons released, can i use that halloween tr_karma to demonstrate? Karmacharger 12:11 AM 10/5/2016 (PDT)
- https://www.dropbox.com/s/lwfowqne4qsld0x/Tr_karma%20and%20night%20%28with%20config%29.rar?dl=0 tr_karma and tr_karma_night, also included config for bots, new bots setup and the old one. Karmacharger 4:02 PM 10/8/2016 (PDT)
- Thanks for the maps. I'm getting some skybox issues with the night version.
- Yes, the bots should be the same and spaced the same way such that videos using either maps stay comparable in terms of distance falloff and time-to-kill-each-bot.
- For halloween: Yes, as long as it also has a halloween background music as well to complement it. I think this would mark a nice point to transition to the regular tr_karma for demos after that point too (meaning that we keep doing tr_target_weaponref_hdr demos until halloween, then make tr_karma_halloween demos, then make tr_karma demos). — Wind 23:54, 9 October 2016 (PDT)
Question about innacurate demonstration videos.
When the a demo video isn't accurate due to patch changes and such, should it still be displayed on the Item page? or should it be commented out until it is updated? Graysocks (talk) 23:06, 26 October 2017 (PDT)
- It should be updated instantly, as I am trying to do above. But windpower is inactive and I can't get em uploaded. Naleksuh (talk) 16:08, 27 October 2017 (PDT)
- Ideally it would be updated instantly, but like you said you can't upload them. In addition there are also other ones that are innacurate now, and making the videos will take some more time. So that's why I'm wondering what should be done while the videos are inaccurate. Graysocks (talk) 23:06, 27 October 2017 (PDT)
- I'm not really sure. I was considering just replacing the links with my own videos, but I'm not sure how much windpower would like that. Am still waiting on a reply back from him. For now I guess, just leave it how it is. Better to have a partial demonstration than nothing--stats are shown at begin so they can tell if it's old or not. Naleksuh (talk) 10:11, 29 October 2017 (PDT)

- Oh hi. I'm here and I try to check this page every weekend or so (sometimes I skip weeks but yeah...). When a video is inaccurate, typically the weapon still retains most of its previous behaviour, and also its appearance (3D model in the game), so the old video still has some value. The
{{Weapon Demonstration}}
template actually supports an "out of date" mode where it will display a disclaimer for outdated videos (see the last line of{{Weapon Demonstration}}
, where it says "scattergun-outdate"). That will display an autotranslated "out-of-date" disclaimer on all pages including this video. — Wind 14:39, 29 October 2017 (PDT)- So I guess I will add that "out-of-date" disclaimed to the out of date videos that I find. IRC
- Is everyone here emotionally attatched to IRC? because I lose all my messages upon restart and if wind wouldn't mind, I wish weapon demos could be discussed on alternative chat sites (Discord, slac, etc).
- however, I am still relatively new here so I understand if the answer is "deal with it". Naleksuh (talk) 21:13, 9 November 2017 (PST)
- The IRC channel dates back to 2010 or so. People are used to it being there. I would also not want to move it to a proprietary chat service like Slack or Discord.
- You can use Riot.im to join channel
#freenode_#tfwiki:matrix.org
and it will join the #tfwiki Freenode IRC channel through matrix.org, which will keep your messages and will stay connected if you leave. - In the future I plan to set up a proper Matrix version of #tfwiki, which can then automatically bridge users from IRC, Slack, Discord, XMPP, and other protocols together into one virtual channel. I've already started setting it up for #pwiki (the Portal Wiki's IRC channel). — Wind 22:31, 9 November 2017 (PST)
- Also, there is a web log of past messages in the channel at https://irc.biringa.com/channel/tfwiki (older logs are available using the top right button on that page). — Wind 22:35, 9 November 2017 (PST)
- Yeah, that was kinda what I was expecting for #tfwiki, hence the preemptive "deal with it". however, that stuff cant log pms tho, and my concern is every time I get disconnected I have no idea what you said to me and lost all our record. is there an app for that too xdd — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Naleksuh (talk) • (contribs)

Call for YouTube channel management
Oh hi, video demonstrators. I've been lazy on doing reviews and on keeping the YouTube channel up-to-date with the approved demonstrations, and to fix this I'd like to quicken on the first part (quality-checking videos) and recruit people to do the latter part. If you've proven yourself by getting 5 or more videos approved for upload in the past (that means you, Thedop), please reply here to apply. Your responsibilities would be to upload approved videos (not just your own) to the YouTube channel, tagged properly, with the correct thumbnail, and updating the Wiki pages (the weapon page, the dictionary, and the Weapon Demonstration project page's list of demos to do) accordingly. In exchange, I will review your videos on-demand if messaged on IRC, or every weekend otherwise. I'm not pretending this is a fair trade of responsibilities, I just think it's the best thing to do for weapon demonstrations on the wiki as a whole in order to get quality videos out faster given my lack of time. Let me know what you think~ — Wind 01:56, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello Wind, i'm all in to help with the wiki management, but i have some concerns about the upload part because my upload rate is quite "slow" (about 2H for a 6min video for example). I don't mean it is impossible but it would take load of time to uploading most of the current approved videos. I've also some additional questions :
- 1) What part of the dictionary needs to be updated?
- 2) All the approved videos must be uploaded at the same time and remain hidden until the last one is uploaded?
- 3) It is necessary then to upload on Mediafire the approved videos i worked on?
- But apart for that, i can provide any help. - Thedop (talk) 19:48, 06 August 2018 (UTC+1)
- There's also no rush in uploading past approved videos. Some of them have been pending for weeks before publication, so a few days extra isn't a big deal.
- Re: #1: this dictionary:
{{Dictionary/demonstrations}}
- Additionally, pages which didn't have weapon demonstrations (in all languages) must be edited to add the
{{Weapon Demonstration}}
template so that they show up on the page. - Re: #2: No, there is no strict schedule. Historically they were released in batches but that's just because that's how I went over their descriptions and tags to make sure they're correct, and YouTube had no "publish this video at this time in the future" functionality before. Now it's possible to upload them hidden, make sure the description and tags etc. are all hidden, and then publish them slowly over time (like 1 a day). But that's not a requirement.

Split screen HUD
- So I need to change my HUD layout for a demonstration video for 2 screen split-screen. I've downloaded the file that was on the project page called "HUDv2" and extracted it. After that, what do I do with the files? Please help, thanks! Ben10508 (talk) 01:30, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
- The split-screen HUDs haven't been updated for the recent updates, personally i would recommend to stick with the
demonstration.vpk
file from weaponref.7z and changing your resolution directly from the game launch option with-width 960 -height 1080 -window
to make your game run in a window at 960x1080 resolution. - Thedop (talk) 10:50, 10 September 2018 (UTC+1)

Third Degree Demostration
the Third Degree Demostration doesn't show if the Amputator Taunt links also. Shouldn't it be shown? MrJohnson (talk) 08:34, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
- No, on the account that it's a) likely a bug, and b) we generally don't demonstrate interactions with non-stock weapons, unless they're explicitly-coded and important gameplay features (e.g. lighting huntsman arrows on fire) or they're about general properties of non-stock weapons rather than about specific non-stock weapons (e.g. damage bonus against burning players can come from non-flamethrower fire weapons). — Wind 23:38, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
Halloween Souls
Since it's time for Scream Fortress, for every bot I kill, I suck in their soul or whatever it is. Is there a way I could disable this for demonstration videos that I'm currently working on? Ben10508 (talk) 20:34, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

map consistency
I'm been think about redo axtinguisher/postal pumeller demonstrations, but I still dont like how there are 2 different maps for weapon demonstrations. Heck, even the axtinguisher and postal pumeller videos are recorded on different maps. I dont care which map is used, but i'd like if we could all just pick one map and stick with it. Also, i'm make axtinguisher and postal pumeller video once this map thing is settled. Naleksuh (talk) 08:34, 8 April 2019 (UTC)

does anyone know how to edit the item_game.txt in tf2. i followed the instructions in the Weapon Demonstration and it still wont let me edit the file. Justyn (talk) 21:17, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- why do you want to edit it? there's usually no reason to do that, and probably a better workaround. i'm can tell you how Naleksuh (talk) 21:51, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- I want to experiment the "attach_to_hands" command in the item_game.txt and probably suggest valve on how to fix the viewmodel animations for unique weapons because every weapon uses "attach_to_hands" "1" and some weapons should have updated animations instead of using the stock weapons animations. A Chinese translator, Dereko(talk), informed me that Chinese users can not access YouTube at all without using a VPN. This means that they can't watch the weapon demonstration videos aswell. I would propose creating a TF Wiki channel on BiliBili (a popular Chinese video site that can be accessed without VPN) and reuploading the videos there, then changing the Weapon Demonstration
template to link to BiliBili instead of YouTube when used on a Chinese translation page. I would be able to do the reuploading myself, as it would be fairly easy to automate, but would need help with editing the template. Please add your thoughts below. VasyaTheWizard (talk) • (contributions) 19:49, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- About the reuploading, wouldn't the videos themselves be different because the game runs in a different language? but that's probably not feasable at this time, since even the english ones take too long. Naleksuh (talk) 03:06, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
- In an ideal world there would be a video player on the wiki page itself, but I don't think that'll ever happen. As for the Chinese video site, I guess that's okay for now.
Although I think automating it is gonna take a while especially knowing you and making scriptsGrampaSwood (talk) 20:06, 30 July 2019 (UTC)- The weapon demonstration videos purposefully incorporate as little explanatory text as possible in order to be used on non-English pages. It should be fine for the chinese weapon pages to use the english videos, like all other language weapon pages do. — Wind 00:31, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
- BiliBili allows "Embed" videos, and I have created a category page for it.However,it seems that we need to add {{#Widget:BilibiliVideo}} to make it works.Dereko (talk) 03:47, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
- Can you instead use a video site supported by the addon currently installed for videos on this wiki, EmbedVideo? There's a list of supported services here. Youku likely works in China.
- Supporting BiliBili would require either submitting code to the EmbedVideo source tree, or adding custom JavaScript code in MediaWiki:Common.js to replace some pre-designated template with a video player embed. — Wind 02:56, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
- Youku is not very popular among Chinese users. It also has advertisements before videos, while BiliBili doesn't. JavaScript is dark magic to me, so I don't know how hard adding it would be - maybe a user who is experienced with it could help us out? Inspect animations
Maybe a video with all inspect animations in it? It might be unnecessary to put it on the wiki channel itself, but I'm making one anyways for on the Weapons page so if you want one on the wiki channel I can give you the vid once it's done.
GrampaSwood (talk) 07:53, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
- i think it should be put in each weapon's demonstration, but that's not an easy task and also means we lose the machina demonstration :(
- if that gets rejected then it probably would a good idea Naleksuh (talk) 00:05, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
- Updating it every time a new weapon gets added would be too much churn. Inspect animations are already allowed in individual weapon demonstration videos (Ctrl+F "inspect" on the project page), but they are optional. — Wind 02:56, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
- one thing i really hate is inconsistency. my next demonstration will probably be the telefrag, then the postal pumeller in which i'll inspect. after that i think it would be best to rethink the demonstration process. Naleksuh (talk) 03:10, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
- So, on wiki channel yes or no?
GrampaSwood (talk) 19:43, 12 August 2019 (UTC)- No, not because it's not relevant but because it would be too high-maintenance. — Wind 00:18, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
- Fair, I would be up to update it every time new weapons come out. With the current state of TF2, I don't think that will be a lot. I can just squeeze them in when they get added.

ConTracker poses
This demonstration has been reserved: GrampaSwood (talk)
Should there be a ConTracker poses video showing off all the poses? They're different for all classes, kind of like a taunt demonstration.
GrampaSwood (talk) 15:05, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
- That would be cool, yeah — Wind 00:31, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
- Just one question, how would I do this? Can I somehow show it off on my own or do I need a separate player?
GrampaSwood (talk) 08:08, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Dueling Banjo
I can't exactly remember, but I think somewhere was said that if a taunt has an official demonstration (such as the dueling banjo) it should not get one made for the wiki. However, I think we might need an exception for the banjo (and maybe a few others as they do not show off everything sometimes). The Banjo's "demonstration" does not show the secondary mode. Maybe this should be demonstrated?
GrampaSwood (talk) 21:18, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
- I think the rule should be removed completely. Valve's videos are "sneak peeks" NOT full demonstrations and almost all of them lack something important. Naleksuh (talk) 21:16, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
- Agreed, a lot of them don't cover anything.
- Makes sense, but the presence of a wiki-created taunt demonstration shouldn't displace the valve-official video from the demonstration page — Wind 22:17, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
- Eait, isn't the whole point of these demonstrations to make sure there's one video per page? Maybe the valve videos could be linked to in the info box but i don't think it should be embedded. Naleksuh (talk) 07:19, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- The point is that there's one demonstration video per page. You could see one the Valve video as an ad and the wiki-created one as a reference demonstration. — Wind 23:39, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
- Jungle Inferno taunts have been added back to the "needed" title, alongside with Mannrobics and the Kazotsky Kick. — Thedop (talk) 08:46, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

Is there a set demonstration for the Isolationist Pack and the Isolated Merc? Specifically how they work together?
GrampaSwood (talk) 15:39, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
- Nope, otherwise it would be linked to from the page. Feel free to make something. — Wind 22:17, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
can i do the videos in 720p?
demonstration page says i can, but i remember there were complaints about it before? Naleksuh (talk) 05:13, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- Perhaps it's time to change the requirement. That requirement was written in 2010, almost a decade ago. Online video streaming quality has gone a long way since then. Changed the requirement. — Wind 23:39, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
New "Mechanic demonstration" headline for the demonstration thumbnails
TF2wiki members and viewers suggested to replace the actual title "Weapon Demonstration" used for these two demonstrations (airblast and telefrag) by something like "Mechanic Demonstration".
I tried to simulate the style Pilk used for them but it doesn't looks as great as his own work: https://imgur.com/a/W4MQEsH. If somebody is better than me for that... — Thedop (talk) 09:58, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- Looks pretty close to me. Needs a more spread-out drop shadow and a slightly darker gradient on the letters. It helps to have both images open at full-size in different tabs. Alternatively, try to set your image to 50% transparency and overlay it on top of the reference image, then try to align the word "Demonstration" (since it should be pretty much the same) and experiment with styling that word alone until you get it close. — Wind 23:39, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
- Alternatively, you could take the existing File:Demo_thumb_hat_heading.png, cut out the "hat" (so that it just says "Demonstration", extend the gradient on both sides to bring it back to 2560 pixels wide (centering the word "Demonstration"), and now you've got a general-purpose "Demonstration" thumbnail header. — Wind 23:40, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
- I managed to find the font used for making them and applied the changes you advised me to do, so it should look a bit better.

Music in taunts with music
I've seen several comments ask if the demonstration music can be left out when there's a taunt with music. Examples are the Kazotsky kick and Mannrobics. Maybe leave it out of them? I can easily remove them because I still have all original files and also the project file, so it's just a small delete. Alternatively, I could turn it down a bit
GrampaSwood (talk) 10:28, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
- Sure, seems like a reasonable request to have no demonstration music for these. — Wind 00:07, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
- Runner's Rhythm without music, Banjo without music, Kazotsky Kick no music, Mannrobics without music. Let me know if I should have these uploaded on my channel.
GrampaSwood (talk) 00:07, 13 October 2019 (UTC)- You already did this, but to answer this in general: yes, videos should always be uploaded to YouTube, in order to confirm that there was no rendering artifact or sound glitch or whatnot which can happen even when the source material is OK. — Wind 17:51, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

April Fool's
Since April Fool's is coming up, I'd thought maybe doing an April Fool's demonstration with a joke-y topic along with the Wiki going joke mode. Personally I thought of doing a reference pose demonstration for this year. Although I don't know what to do in any following years, if the game is still running by then.

All-class cosmetic changes
The all-class cosmetics, although a bit useless because they're the exact same as every other one, are a huge pain to make. Showing off every single class for a cosmetic might be a bit too much considering they're all the same, maybe showing it off on 1 class in-game but showing it off on all classes on the loadout screen would be better so you don't have to put as many resources into 1 video (I think my attempt has like 40 clips)
GrampaSwood (talk) 11:55, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah. In retrospect this was a terrible thing to even make a long video about each of them. The pitfall of strong consistency, I guess.
- I will amend the project page to say that cosmetics with the same behavior across all classes no longer have to demonstrate the gameplay effect (killfeed message) on any class beyond the first one. Still gotta demonstrate what the item looks like on each class though. — Wind 01:02, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
OTFW videos
Should these videos be redone?
GrampaSwood (talk) 15:03, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
- They're all pretty old now, so yeah, they could be replaced by more modern videos like the item demonstration ones — Wind 04:11, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Bilibili channel irregularly report #1
Greetings everyone, I have been assisting with the management of Bilibili channel of our Wiki since April 6 this year. And here is a report based on audience feedback and work history.
I am not sure if I should put it here, if you have a better idea please let me know. I will put more irregularly reports in the future if there are more constructive suggestions from our audience.
- Suggestions from Audience:
- Press F to inspect the item at the beginning in our future weapon demonstration videos.
- Make and upload a demontration video for Mannpower mode to demonstrate different Powerups.
- Make and upload (a) demontration video(s) to demonstrate the effects of Halloween Spells.
- Work History:
- Created our account and applys a Chinese nickname: TFWiki官方中文频道 (spaces are not allowed for nicks in Bilibili).
- Uploaded demonstration videos and Meet the Team series in other languages we had uploaded to Youtube and applied Chinese covers to them.
- I found Grappling Hook should be "action item" instead of "weapon", and I have reported Mr.Tark about it.
- Added Bilibili video links to the Template:Dictionary/demonstrations.
- I wrote a column to declare the establishment of our channel and the applications of Biliili embedded video.
- I posted the news of Mr.Rick May, Code leak and today's Twitter posts from Valve, with necessary source links and translation work.
- I answered some questions (for example, how to get a Black Rose) and guided them how to solve these questions by checking our Wiki pages.
Here I should express our thanks to Mr.Tark once again, you are our hero.
- Hey Dereko, for the first point I'd like to address that this is not part of the official routine yet. But there's only 2 people, Thedop and me, working on it lately. We do inspect stuff, and I don't think it'll change any time soon. As for the second point, that was already an idea (Listed above somewhere). The spell idea is a good idea, and I'd like to do it as well, but we'll have to discuss specifics. As for now, Wind seems occupied with real life so not much is happening here.
GrampaSwood (talk) 22:29, 23 April 2020 (UTC)- Actually the "Inspect" is part of the "official routine", I added it a little while ago to the main project page (Ctrl+F "inspect"). But there are some many videos out there now that redoing all of them just for the inspect animation would be way too much work for too little benefit.
- Powerups and spell videos would be great, agreed.
- Thanks for your work establishing this, and for reporting in with the findings~ — Wind 04:11, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Error about Pip-Boy demonstration
On the page of Pip-Boy, the demonstration section is showing the video for PDA.
I have checked Template:Dictionary/demonstrations, the link for Pip-Boy demonstation is "ELo4Yc6l1AA", which links to an unavailable video.
- Yeah, I think we don't have a video made for this. Might be OK to have one. — Wind 05:44, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

I made a demonstration video of the collectors chemistry set!
https://youtu.be/3gfLEbMUEc4 Shork985 (talk) 02:10, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
- First of all, the Chemistry set demostration was already reserved for GrampaSwood.
- Second, in the section "Chemistry set" other guy did a chemistry set demostration long time ago. You are making the same mistakes than him. Not starting in the first page of the backpack
- Now, a few things: 1. You are not showing the item properly. 2. There should be only the chemistry set in the first page of the backpack. 3. You should not edit the velocity of the video or anything else. Therefore, using the "Festive jarate" chemistry set would not be recommendable unless you want to do a 4 minutes video of moving the jarates in their slots. 4. Not sure about this, but you're not using the highest graphic options.
- It seems that you didn't read the guidelines for making a demostration. That said, remember that the demostration is already reserved by Grampaswood. · Ashe (talk) 03:05, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
weaponref.7z link is unavailable
Dereko tried to download weaponref.wiki.tf/weaponref.7z
but resulted in failure. In case that's a problem with the network in our country, a VPN using an American server was turned on but it still not worked. May I ask someone to verify that if this link is available?
By the way, the link for the pre-lengthened music files (www.mediafire.com/download/y0gjm9yekjj6zzx/Demonstration+Music+v2.rar
) not worked for me as well, but I downloaded them by visiting www.mediafire.com/download/y0gjm9yekjj6zzx
instead.
- Surely it is related with your network. I don't have problems with downloading both the files. Surely the weaponref.7z needs a mirror · Ashe (talk) 03:44, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Reservation times
I've seen reservated demonstrations made too much time ago (more than 2 months) that haven't been finished or were rejected and the author did never responded again. Some people probably would want to do the cosmetics but they can't because are already reservated.
I think that people should have a maximum of 2 months to finish the video. If not, the reservation is eliminated and other people can reservate it · Ashe (talk) 23:28, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- The project page actually states that reservations are only valid for at most 2 weeks. You can ignore them and do demonstrations anyway after that time. — Wind 05:46, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
Quick-Fix needs to be redone
What's missing:
Healing a Pyro using Thermal Thruster.- Healing a flare jumping Pyro.
- Healing a charging Demoman.
Healing a grenade jumping Demoman.- Also, does Ubering two teammates simultaneously drain the Uber faster, considering its main purpose is to crit heal in middle of combat? Compare it with Ubering a single teammate side-by-side (in demonstration).
- This section (at 3:53, to demonstrate Uber build rate difference when healing injured teammate) needs to be redone. The friendly medic (on the rightmost screen) should use the Quick-Fix instead of the stock Medi Gun. Explanation: The Quick-Fix builds Uber faster than other mediguns when healing a lone teammate thanks to its maximum overheal of 125% being lower than Uber build penalty of 142.5% overheal. So, does 2nd healing beam alone slow the Uber build rate?
- Try to redo this section (at 3:26, demonstrating crit heal after 10-15 seconds) with Quick-Fix Uber right after non-Uber. Does the Quick-Fix's triple healing rate Uber stack with 10-15s crit heal?
Exaskliri (talk) 05:14, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- I disagree that it needs to cover all the cases of "fast/unusual movement"; just the basic soldier rocket jump case should be generalizable enough. Otherwise the video would need to be edited for each new change to other classes' movement abilities.
- The two-teammates thing is interesting though. — Wind 02:27, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Fists of Steel needs to be redone
Only on this section (the latest one as of this writing, at 1:07).
Before all Heavies receives rocket damage, both Fists of Steel Heavies needs to holster the FoS (no need to re-demonstrate the damage reduction, already done at 0:40). Only after that the second FoS Heavy may re-deploy the FoS (the first FoS Heavy don't re-deploy), so that all the Heavies begin healing from the same starting point.
Oh, why didn't make the Heavies take 3 rockets instead of 2 (2 rockets left non-FoS Heavy at 108 health)?
Exaskliri (talk) 11:11, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- The idea is that the -40% healing speed exactly cancels out with the -40% damage. That's why, despite starting from different health starting points, the two FoS heavies get healed up to 300 HP in exactly the same duration. If they started receiving health from the same point, this wouldn't be as obvious. — Wind 02:27, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

- Second, your name probably matches one of the bots. That's why you are getting kicked. You don't need to use a custom name for the demonstration · Ashe (talk) 02:51, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Kill Sounds and Damage Number Stacking
May hit/kill sounds (I use default ones, hit and kill) be used in weapon demonstration videos? Also, may damage numbers be stacked (hud_combattext_batching_window 2.0 for last 2 seconds)? Thanks. --Exaskliri (talk) 13:05, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
- It would be a weird inconsistency, no other videos use hit/kill sounds and as far as I know use the default damage number batching. Better to keep it this way, no real reason to change it.

How do I hide 2D player model and the Health Bar, as well as the Uber charge meter?
I've been working on the new Quick-Fix demonstration video. I need to hide the health bar for split-screen demonstrations. Exaskliri (talk) 13:24, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- Why do you need to hide these?
GrampaSwood (talk) 13:39, 1 May 2021 (UTC)- I want to demonstrate uber build rate in four split-screens.
- Heal the Engineer alone.
- Heal the Engineer while having the Pyro damage him constantly.
- Heal the Engineer while he's being healed by another Quick-Fix Medic (only the beam slows the build rate).
- Heal the Engineer while he's being healed by another Medic using the stock Medi Gun (both the beam and the 150% overheal slows the build rate, slower than the third).
- If I play TF2 in 480x1080, the health bar and the Uber meter would stack. For that Uber build-rate thing, I only want to hide the Medic's health bar. I also want to hide the Uber charge during the running speed comparison when healing Scout. Exaskliri (talk) 13:45, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- I don't see this in the original, and I think it's too complicated for anyone to visually understand what it means.

Suggestions that would unfortunately require re-recording almost all demonstrations to actually implement
- A handful of videos have the player's username visible. It's probably better form to just have that be the name of the class they're playing.
- Similarly, a handful of videos are using weapons with non-Unique qualities, which may be confusing for new players.
- In terms of audio: some videos use slightly different remixes of the same track. (examples: https://youtu.be/dxo647zOeS0 and https://youtu.be/6Lh8oMBGYqA and https://youtu.be/5GmAQz0skDk all use different tracks). These should probably be changed to one track for consistency. (I'm assuming that the "official" music used for these videos just changes over the years, so I guess this is really more about re-recording old videos in general.)
- For weapon demonstrations, there should probably be a shot of the weapon's inspection animation before the first firing test.
- Also for weapon demonstrations, there should be some on-screen text that explains the current attribute being tested. (e.g, for shots where weapon switch speed changes are being shown by having weapons rapidly cycled between and fired, there should be text saying something along the lines of "X% slower weapon switch speed). This would make the videos more intuitive for newer players to understand.
Given how substantial these changes are, I'm not expecting these to just happen overnight, but if there's ever a mass-rework of all the existing videos this would be a good place to start. Feel free to tack on your own suggestions. HitlineMiamo (talk) 09:47, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- The first is not an issue, really. It's very minor and doesn't matter. The second is not worth redoing the videos for, although any future ones could be set to only use Unique quality items unless there is no other option (Or it's too expensive). There are a few different tracks able to be used in videos, but it's also not worth redoing videos for as it doesn't take away from the demonstration. The inspect animation thing should (in my opinion) be mandatory for any future demonstration but (again) is too minor to redo everything for.
- As for the last one, the whole point of a demonstration is to demonstrate it without using any text so any person from any country can understand it. The solution would be to have every video redone also in every language. It just goes against the whole point of demonstrations and is a LOT of work for a few very minor details that, in the end, don't really take away from the purpose of a demonstration (which is to demonstrate how a weapon functions). The closest thing I can see to this happening (Which I suggested to Thedop before) is using the YouTube chapter feature.
GrampaSwood (talk) 10:54, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- Re: player name: It's been justified over time as a way to give credit to the person doing the work of creating demonstration videos. I think it's a fair tribute, even though, stylistically, it's true that other wiki resources tend to hide who did the work of putting them together. I guess other wiki resources like weapon pages are much more collectively created, whereas videos are done by a single individual (or at most a few players recording clips together).
- Re: item quality: yeah, that one's eh. Initially it was a necessity, because every weapon was basically suddenly Vintage after the release of the quality system, and it was hard to consistently get weapons in non-Vintage quality just for demonstration purposes. Shortly afterwards that stopped being true, but it felt unfair to impose that extra restriction. It's not a huge source of confusion anyway.
- Re: audio: actually the use of different versions of that track is intentional. They're all songs that play in various of the in-game TF2 <codde>training_vid_*.mp3 music files demonstration videos. In TF2 they all play inconsistently as well (well, consistently with which demonstration video is playing, but not consistently with one another), just like weapon demonstration videos.
- Re: Weapon inspection animation: Yeah, totally agree on that one. I wish that feature had been added years ago. We should make it a requirement. I added it as a requirement just now (not applying to the demonstrations currently being reviewed). But again, way too many redo's to be worth redoing the entire catalog.
- Re: in-video text: as GrampaSwood says, this is an intentional omission, such that the videos are embeddable on wiki pages in all languages. It also forces the videos to try to be simple enough to understand without words. There are some videos that break this rule when there's no other way to make things clearer.

Title says it. I'm not sure if it's because of weaponref.cfg or something. Memayz (talk) 14:59, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
- weaponref.cfg simply changes a bunch of settings and doesn't affect pyrovision. go to
steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\cfg
and add"tr_karma.bsp" "1"
inmtp.cfg
.

Low-quality engineer blueprints
When I pull out a building blueprint it is low-quality for a moment, before becoming high-quality. If I wait ~10s and pull it out again, the blueprint is low-quality again. I've watched some other demonstration videos and they don't seem to have this issue. What can I do to remedy this? Memayz (talk) 15:29, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
Pyrovision overlay not working
Although in my Advanced Settings, Pyrovision Border and Pyrovision Border Distortion are set to Dynamic and Enabled respectively, the overlay around the edges of the screen doesn't show. When I move my config.cfg file out of my cfg folder, it does show. I don't want to move my config file every time I do a demo video, especially because it has some useful commands for me. Would anyone happen to know what command it is? (I can provide the file if need be). Memayz (talk) 18:53, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- These questions are starting to get very unrelated to the demonstrations, all this stuff can be found by googling or by a process of elimination. You should remove your config anyways to eliminate the posibility of any commands like this conflicting constantly.
