The Ein is a cosmetic item for the Engineer. It is a yellow canary perched on the Engineer's left shoulder, wearing a pair of welding goggles similar to the ones worn by the Engineer himself.

When players equipped with this item kill an enemy unassisted by another player, the killfeed shows everyone in Pyroland that it gets the assist, with its custom name if it has one.

The Ein was contributed to the Steam Workshop under the name "Einstein".

The Ein can be used with a Strangifier.

Bugs

• The string for the level description is missing, so the level for this item does not show up in-game, but it still shows on the Steam Community backpack viewer.
  • The level is still transmitted over the Steam Web API, so most third-party backpack viewers still show the level. Backpack viewers that show the name alongside the level label it with its schema item type name, Mascot.

• "Ein" is a abbreviation of Einstein, the last name of Albert Einstein, a leading figure in the world of theoretical physics.
• Ein being a canary is a reference to miner's canaries, which were used by miners to warn them of poisonous gases or other dangers.
