The Spirit Of Giving is a miscellaneous item for all classes. It appears as a grey box-like machine attached to each class's chest. The machine has a green colored screen featuring a beating heart and bubbles.
This item tracks the number of Secret Saxton or Pile o' Gifts items that are used by the player. Each of these used will increase the rank displayed.

Ranks
The current rank title forms the prefix of the item name; e.g. a Spirit Of Giving with three gifts given will appear as "The Competent Contributor's Spirit Of Giving". As the rank increases, the 'heart' inside the box also increases in size. Consequently, the heart is not visible if no gifts have been made.
Although the Pile o' Gifts is capable of granting 23 gifts to players in the server in a single use, the counter will only increase to the amount of gifts distributed. As such, if the server has only 10 connected players, only 10 gifts will be granted and the count will only increase by 10.
Rank | Gifts Given | Name |
---|---|---|
0 | 0 | The |
1 | 1 | The Baseline Benefactor's |
2 | 3 | The Competent Contributor's |

Update history
- The Spirit Of Giving was added to the game.
Bugs
- The Mann Co. Catalogue describes the item's rank as being incremented by the number of duels (from the Dueling Mini-Game), instead of the number of gifts granted.
- The green part of the screen on the model is still visible while the player is Cloaked as a Spy.
Trivia
- The item's appearance is inspired from the final scene of the Template:W story Template:W. The main character views his heart through an x-ray, and watches as it enlarges when he discovers "the true meaning" of the holiday Template:W.[citation needed]
- The item's description references Template:W, which is the medical term for thickening and growth of the heart.
- The lowest amount of money that a player can spend on Secret Saxtons alone (not including any Secret Saxtons gained via trading) to increase the level of this item to its maximum would be $247.50 / £147.5 / €147.5. The lowest amount of money that a player can spend on Piles O' Gifts alone (assuming that it is used on a full 24-player server each time) to increase the level of this item to its maximum would be $219.89 / £164.89 / €164.89).
- When equipped to the Pyro, Medic, or Scout, the item is worn on the right side of the chest, despite the human heart being slightly to the left side.
