Kill all sons of bitches, that's my official instructions.
Ellis

Ellis' Cap is a new unlockable headwear item. It's a reference to the hat worn by Ellis, a character from Valve's zombie shooter franchise, Left 4 Dead 2. It is still unknown how this hat is obtained, but it is very possible that it will be unlocked when obtaining an achievement, like the Alien Swarm Parasite, in Left 4 Dead 2 related to The Sacrifice DLC arriving on October 5th. However, none of the announced achievements mentioned hats at all. It may come from completing The Sacrifice, as there is an achievement for that, called "The Supreme Sacrifice". Otherwise, there is no idea on how this could be earned at this time.

Trivia

  • The path to the hat materials is "root/TF2/materials/models/items/player/items/scout" or "X:\Program file\steam\steamname\TF2\materials\models\items\player\items\scout", so it is strange why it's a "all-class" hat.
  • This is the second Left 4 Dead related hat in Team Fortress 2 that is available for all classes, the first being Bill's Hat.
  • Ellis from Left 4 Dead 2 seemingly makes a comment in the game about how a situation he was in was similar to Team Fortress 2. That voice line was likely to have been added because of the popular fan-made custom campaign based on Team Fortress 2's Badwater Basin, and at first was speculated that it was merely a case of good voice splicing. • In Left 4 Dead 2 the hat is actually blue whereas here it is seen as red, this colour scheme changes to differentiate RED and BLU versions of the hat.
  • It has the same design as the Mann Co. Cap.
  • This hat features a tow truck, as Ellis worked at a garage before the zombie apocalypse.
  • There are several rumors that this hat might be linked to one of the new achievements in the upcoming L4D/L4D2 expansion 'The Sacrifice'. Ironically, the Sacrifice has little to do with Ellis, just as Bill's Hat came from pre-ordering L4D2, which (at the time) had little to do with Bill.
  • According to The Sacrifice's update page, a skeleton on the bottom left of the screen is seen wearing the Ellis Cap, hinting it may be awarded to those who play the DLC. The Sacrifice's Update Page
  • There is a reference to Team Fortress 2 in "The Sacrifice" comic. There is Heavy Weapons Guy action figure on the table. [2]
