The Alien Swarm Parasite is an unlockable headwear item for all Classes. It is obtained by earning the Hat Trick achievement in the game Alien Swarm by completing 2 co-op missions (regardless of difficulty setting) online. This item can only be achieved by playing the game. It is not tradeable.

Trivia

Hat Trick Achievement Icon

• This is the second hat that appears to be a living creature, the other being the Triboniophorus Tyrannus.
• This hat is the first and so far only item to be unlocked via the achievements of another game.
• This hat was speculated days before the game was even released due to the Heavy appearing on the icon for the Hat Trick achievement.
• This hat looks much like a facehugger from the Alien franchise or a headcrab, parasitic enemy from the Half-Life series.
• If you taunt with the Sniper's Kukri, Shiv or Bushwacka, the Sniper will very easily pull the parasite off of his head, before putting it back on - not a particularly clever idea if the hat is indeed alive.
• This is the only promotional hat without a limited supply.
• With the Mann-Conomy Update, this hat emits the same sound as a Swarm Parasite in Alien Swarm when picked up in the backpack.
• This hat was tradeable in the release of the Mann-Conomy Update, but the following updates removed this possibility.
• The hat description was written by Grug. It was slightly edited by Valve.
• When the hat is shot after falling off of its owner, it will bleed which proves that the hat is or was once alive.
• This is the only hat that appears on different locations on the head depending on what class is wearing it.
• Originally, the Heavy on the "Hat Trick" achievement icon had a beard.
