- The name of this item is a reference to the book series Template:W, created by Template:W, which says that a hitchhiker should always have a towel with him, as well as 42 being the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Another Scout weapon, the Holy Mackerel, references this as well, with its level being 42.
- The item description is a reference to ancient Spartan warrior Template:W who, when told that the oncoming arrows from the Persian archers would block out the sun, reportedly laughed and replied "Then we will fight in the shade."
