Max's Severed Head is a promotional headwear item, wearable by all classes. It is the eponymous Max's head with his jaw removed, giving the appearance of him biting on the wearer's head. The ears swing in motion.

This hat was awarded to players who bought Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse within the first week of its release.

In addition to the hat, two weapons were also released as part of the promotion; the Lugermorph (a pistol for the Scout and Engineer), and the Big Kill (a revolver for the Spy). Sam's Hat was also originally to be included with this bundle, but was scrapped due to the modeling team having trouble getting the hat to fit each class properly.

Trivia

  • The in-game description mentions the hat as being crafted in cruelty-free farms in the Template:W. This is a reference to the first Sam & Max comic, Monkeys Violating the Heavenly Temple, which took place in the Philippines.
  • In Poker Night at the Inventory, the Heavy tries to menace Max by saying 'I will make hat from you, little bunny', alluding to this hat.
  • Sam is shown wearing a Near-Identical Max head in a ´92 San Diego Comic-Con ad.
