The Proof of Purchase is a special headwear item for all classes. It is an olive green Template:W with slight battle damage and Team Fortress 2 logo of a slightly darker shade emblazoned on the side. A narrow belt with a gold buckle extends around the back, over the wearer's neck.
This hat is given to players who purchased Team Fortress 2 before the Über Update on June 23, 2011,[1] those who receive a gift of the game,[2] and those who activate a retail copy of the game.

Update history
June 23, 2011 Patch (Über Update)
- The Proof of Purchase was added to the game.
- Fixed the Proof of Purchase not being able to be used in the Rebuild Headgear recipe.
Trivia
- The Template:W was also referred to as the Tin Helmet or Doughboy helmet. Less affectionately, it was called a Shrapnel Helmet for its tendency to break when hit by a bullet. The hat was famous during the World Wars, in both of which the Allies used the Brodie Helmet.
- The helmet is also known as a 'Metal Bowler' in the British military and first came into service in 1916.
- The description references the hat's origins. The hat itself is visible on the Human player model from the early "Invasion" version of Team Fortress 2, as well as the files that were leaked in 2003 with Half-Life 2's source code.
