The Alien Swarm Parasite is an unlockable headwear item for all Classes. It is obtained by earning the Hat Trick achievement in the game Alien Swarm by completing 2 co-op missions (regardless of difficulty setting) online.
Trivia
- This is the second hat that appears to be a still-living creature, the other being the Triboniophorus Tyrannus.
- The Parasite's tail has jigglebones, making it the second promotional hat with jigglebones, the other being Max's Severed Head.
- This hat is the first and only item to be unlocked via the achievements of another game.
- This hat was speculated days before the game was even released due to the Heavy appearing on the icon for the Hat Trick achievement.
- This is the second hat that allows the Soldier's shaved head to be shown, the other being the Cheater's Lament.
- This hat looks much like a facehugger from the Alien franchise or a headcrab, parasitic enemy from the Half-Life series.
- This hat will split into two whenever someone wearing it dies; this also happens in Alien Swarm where if the player dies from infection, the parasite splits into two or three, depending on the difficulty.
- If you taunt with the Sniper's Kukri or Shiv, the Sniper will actually pull off the parasite for his taunt, unlike most all class hats where he picks up thin air from his head.
- The Heavy wears his parasite hat differently in-game than on the Hat Trick achievement icon.
- The parasite appears to actually be alive, as it bleeds when you shoot at it. This applies even if it is lying on the ground.
- This hat is the first and only hat to have different head placements on different classes:
