Ellis' Cap is a promotional headwear item. The hat features a tow truck design on it, it is a reference to the hat worn by Ellis, a character from Valve's zombie shooter franchise, Template:W. In Left 4 Dead 2, Ellis' Cap is actually navy blue. This is the second Left 4 Dead related hat in Team Fortress 2 that is available for all classes, the first being Bill's Hat.
Obtaining
Beginning October 6, 2010, Ellis' Cap, along with the Frying Pan, was awarded to anyone who purchased Left 4 Dead 2 before Thursday, October 7, 2010, 4pm Template:W, as well as to anyone who had already purchased the game. If you purchased Left 4 Dead 2 from a retail store, you could still obtain the Ellis' Cap and Frying Pan as long as the game was linked to your Steam account. According to "Sacrifice: TF2 Items" on the Left 4 Dead Blog, anyone who owned Left 4 Dead 2 prior to the announcement would receive the item within a few days of the initial release. Ellis' Cap and the Frying Pan would show up in the player's inventory if they were eligible to obtain it. On October 21, 2010, the Ellis' Cap, along with the Frying Pan, were made tradeable.
Trivia
- This is the second hat containing a reference to the universe of Left 4 Dead. The first was Bill's Hat.
- In Left 4 Dead 2 Ellis' Cap actually has a blue color. For the sake of adapting their hats in the Team Fortress 2, the color changed in accordance with the teams (blue and red).
- The hat shows tow, since before the apocalypse Ellis worked as a mechanic.
- Path to the materials is such hat: root/TF2/materials/models/items/player/items/scout, so little is not clear why this hat for all classes.
- Cap has a design identical Mann Co. Cap.
- Ironically, «The Sacrifice» has a very indirect relation to Ellis, as well as Bill's Hat, inherited those who pre-purchase L4D2 on Steam, which had the (then) almost no relation to Bill.
- Before the day of release on the page of the future updates «The Sacrifice» weak skeleton could be seen in the lower left corner dressed in Ellis' Cap
- Ellis and Bill - the only characters in a series of Left 4 Dead, who wore hats.
- In this cap Scout recalls Ellis.
- On the map "Badwater Basin", which was moved to the fans L4D2, from Ellis can sometimes hear the phrase "Dude, it's just like in Team Fortress 2!".
- At present Ellis' Cap picture with far fewer vans.
