- The "pompadour and sunglasses" look is popularly associated with Elvis Presley, who also sang the most famous version of the song which the cosmetic is named for.
- The item description also makes a reference to another well-known song by Elvis Presley, "All Shook Up".
- The Hound Dog is seen by many in the Team Fortress community as a reference to the cartoon "Johnny Bravo", as the hair and glasses (when painted certain colors) are similar to those of the eponymous protagonist.
