The Engineer on buying the game

The Proof of Purchase is a promotional cosmetic item for all classes. It is an olive green Brodie helmet with slight battle damage, two faded stripes down the middle, and a Team Fortress 2 logo of a slightly darker shade emblazoned on the side. A narrow belt with a gold buckle extends around the back, over the wearer's neck.

This item was initially given to players who purchased Team Fortress 2 before the Über Update on June 23, 2011,[1] but can still be obtained by receiving a gift of the game,[2] or by activating a retail copy of the game — such as purchasing The Orange Box.

Update history

June 23, 2011 Patch (Über Update)

  • The Proof of Purchase was added to the game.

October 18, 2011 Patch

Notes

  • Purchasing the Valve Complete Pack after 12 December, 2018 will not grant the user the Proof of Purchase; this is due to the bundle not including the retail version of the game.[3]

Trivia

  • The description references the item's origins. The item itself is visible on the Human player model from the early "Invasion" version of Team Fortress 2, as well as the files that were leaked in 2003 with Half-Life 2's source code.
