The Ghastly Gibus is an unlockable headwear item available to all classes. It appears as a slightly damaged, black gibus hat with the top nearly detached. In a similar fashion to the Gentle Manne's Service Medal, the first possible method of getting this hat was to be one of the first 10,319 people to visit a hidden web page. The alternative method, through which it can still be unlocked, is to complete the Ghastly Gibus Grab achievement by dominating a player wearing the hat. Unlike the Mildly Disturbing Halloween Mask you are not restricted to when you can wear the hat. This hat can be worn all year round.

* It was possible to obtain two Ghastly Gibuses: by finding one through the hidden web page, while the giveaway was in practice, and by earning one with the achievement. This originally served no practical purpose, as the Gibus cannot be crafted into anything else and one single Gibus can be worn by all classes at once, but since the addition of Paint Cans players with two Gibuses can have them in two different colours. Not to be confused with Ghostly Gibus.
Dude, you'd get a closed casket at the ugly cemetery!
The Scout on Zepheniah Mann

The Ghastly Gibus (/'gæstli ˈdʒaɪbəs/ gast-lee jahy-buhs) is a cosmetic item for all classes. It is a damaged, black gibus hat with the top nearly detached.

The item's description was written by Esquilax for the Hat Describing Contest.

This item was originally awarded to the first 10,319 players who visited a hidden page on the Haunted Hallowe'en Special website. It could also be obtained by earning the Ghastly Gibus Grab achievement by dominating a player with the item equipped; however, after October 26, 2012, this achievement now rewards the player with a Ghostly Gibus.

Players that had earned the Ghastly Gibus before the Scream Fortress Update in 2010 or the Very Scary Halloween Special update in 2011 had their Ghastly Gibus upgraded to a Ghastlier Gibus.
